Rodents chewing through wiring harness?

Guys,

For the second time in 6 months something has chewed through my wiring harness, costing me thousands and weeks without my truck. Is this a known issue? Is Ford using soy based wiring like other companies? Everyone I know finds this unbelievable so there has to be something to it. No other cars in this same driveway have ever had an issue, and my truck has twice in 6 months. I got it January so it hasn't been here super long.

****, that’s super ******!!! I’ve heard of squirrels chewing on telephone lines but never automotive wiring.

You need a flamethrower or machine gun to take care of the critters.

I had a Silverado that a rodent chewed through the wiring once. I bought one of those plug-in rodent deterrent gizmos. I never had another problem.

Gen 1 here, but we have that issue with my wife's little Mercedes Coup. If we EVER leave it in the driveway, goodbye transmission wiring. It's rabbits for us (maybe squirrels, we have a lot of those), but they have never touched my truck which always parks there. It's possible that it's too high, but I think they would have gotten it by now one way or another if it had the soy bit going on. The Mercedes obviously does, as did a rental car we had for a day.

We have issue with Starlings in the spring... They target the truck to neat in because it has more room under the hood. I wonder if this is why your truck is being targeted?

Not an uncommon problem for me happening to my wife's BMW, my 04 and 14 Chevrolet Silverado's and most memorably to my 2005 Ford GT.
If in garage, keep traps set and allow no garbage or food to attract them. Outdoors in winter the warm engine heat draws them. Not sure what to do here unless rodent repellent devices work (which I have not tried). Total bill for repairs well over $2000.

Would insurance cover this sort of thing? Be it homeowners or your vehicle insurance?

Good question, may have to just call and ask. My chevy dealer hooked me up and covered it under warranty

Homeowners definitely won't. Most insurance won't cover any damages caused by rodents.

My wife’s daily driver. I ended up getting about $1200 from my auto insurance (Allstate) to fix it and replace all the parts. Its considered under most all insurance comprehensive coverage. I couldn’t believe it when I opened the hood
