Any benefit to making the Gen 2 hood vents actually work?

As you may know. The Gen 2 hood vents have 4 louvers, but only the 1st two have any functionality to them, and that functionality are smallish holes.

i was thinking about taking the vent off the hood, and making the existing vent holes larger, and doing the same to the other 2 louvers.

Anyone ever done this? Would it reduce operating temps?

not super sure on the hood vents, but since doing fenders, my fender vents are now functional. they make a tangible difference.

Is there a cutout under the fender vents on the oem fenders?

Would be nice to open up the hood louvres. Maybe put a sliding vent to adjust flow. Engine would be covered in ***** especially off-road.

Having owned performance cars with functional vents it drives me f’ing crazy to know these are cosmetic only - what a joke. Reminds me of my ‘69 fastback hood.

i remember back in the day someone enlarged the vents on their gen 1 and it created some more noise. the vents do disperse some heat, but im wondering if its the same situation where making any changes will affect it the same way.

If it helps any, I opened the hood vents on my GEN1 so that they're half-again larger than the factory openings. No additional noise. Back in the day, as nosbusa puts it, there was some indication that opening the hood vents too aggressively would play havoc with the spray pattern of the windshield washers. That's why I only went half-again larger, and the spray pattern was unaffected.
