It doesn't, as the first foot or so of the whip flexes very little. If it's a concern, slide a short length of foam water pipe insulation or pool noodle over the whip before installation on the mount.

These are $20. Most stores around dunes sell them too. Mine is 1/4” thick steel. It ain’t bending.
But it does feel awesome on your shins.

I cut it up a little to get it to sit back on the tow hook
