@ 430 hp and only 475 lb-ft....i guess the V8 in Raptor crowd will pipe down

But were both the previous gen raptor & HD engines the same or did they simply share the same displacement?

For instance- you could have the same discussion years back when GM made the LS2 6.0 & the Vortec 6.0 alongside each other- same cylinder count, same displacement, both used in trucks, but def not the same engine.

Yes, both were the same. It was in tuning.

FYI, cams and tuning are different between a HO 6.2L, F150 6.2L and Super Duty 6.2L

The Raptor R has different heads and an even bigger cam giving it 500 HP, Naturally Asperated.

In the end, nothing will beat cubic inches. There’s simply way more potential in the 6.2 (or even the 7.3) than there is in a smaller motor.

You can order up a 6.2 right now, that will make north of 1000 HP. There might be a similar power 3.5 EB out there, but it surely won’t survive 500 miles in the desert. At the rate the new Raptors are blowing motors and trannys, it may not survive 500 miles on the street.

With 429 cubic inches in a modern design motor, you could see aftermarket shops offering 1500 HP builds, maybe more.

Tell me more about the EcoBoost HO blowing engines and trannies?

I have a new ‘19 Raptor and I find that comment a bit disturbing. I know about the cam phaser issues with some motors, but not bigger issues?

And that makes sense I guess b/c it wasn’t an all new design they added it during a refresh mid-life cycle.

I keep saying it tho- I can’t help but LOL @ Raptor owners holding out for a Ford V8 when I’m coming from 2 previous GM trucks that IMO (and most critics) had the “best” V8 in a 1/2 ton & I purposely went w/ a Raptor for the HO 3.5 EB

I’m sure this 7.3 is a stout motor though & I imagine it’ll be a fairly cheap crate engine to swap in down the line, but if ya really want a nice V8 roar & N/A big displacement performance best recipe would be dropping in a trusty Chevy LS7 crate motor w/ a hot cam.

If you want a blown V8 get a Ram

Those are not big issues? I lived through it. Twice. Ford bought my 19 back because they could not fix it (cam phasers).
