Body damage from bungee/rope tie downs- how much ya think??

In the future, use ratchet straps and attach them to the tie down points inside the bed. I've done that for 30+ years and have never damaged my trucks hauling anything in the bed. Doesn't matter if it's a plastic kayak or a cardboard box. Unless I'm going one block away at less than 25 MPH, it gets secured. I don't want it blowing out the back, or coming through the back window in a wreck.

So let me get this straight, you’d you use ratchet straps for to tie down a tarp covering your bed? Don’t think so. I use ratcheting straps for legit stuff- holding down my ATV or riding mower, not holding a damn tarp.

Don't be such a *****!!! Be a real man and use chains, like I do. I promise your tarp will not move at all.

It is pretty simple. And unfortunately why my Raptor is a pavement princess who has not been of road yet. Trail rash would break my heart and I would have to sell the truck.

It is pretty simple. And unfortunately why my Raptor is a pavement princess who has not been of road yet. Trail rash would break my heart and I would have to sell the truck.

Absolutely nothing but soap, cleaning agents, and approved microfibers.

On the offroad front, you just gotta find places that are wide enough. I made the mistake of going with my offroad group to Ouachita...it was supposed to be wide open trails - needless to say it wasn't. Took me 3 days to buff all the scratches out. There was a jeep with us that still had the dealer tags on.

Now I make sure the trail is wide enough before I go, or use trakktape before hand. Been offroad quite a few times and no damage.

DOnt get me wrong love the truck, took it on some off-road trails in Canada today- fun!

If I planned on doing regular off-roading w/ the raptor probably would’ve had the whole thing done in Xpel ppf (just portions of front bumper/hood/fenders/B pillars are) & linex the flares.

As I thought about it for few days probably should’ve wrapped cargo w/ tarp like a burrito (the kayak was tied down w/ ratcheting strap in bed as it was) & then used one of those “bungee cargo net” things on top of everything & just secure it @ 4 corner points.

Not arguing about the cords touching paint probably not best idea (of course also didn’t expect brand new tarp to rip) - but again, I’ve used plenty of trucks similarly over the years & no chance a steel panel gets worn down like that. So in general- gotta be more careful w/ the AL body. Period.
