Install was generally pretty smooth. The build quality is really second to none. I got them to do the textured powder and I am happy with the finish. It looks very thick.

On the frame horns, you only need to trim about 2 inches from the bottom of the mounting "plate" which is flat as you look at it if that makes sense. Sorry, no pics. Just test mount it up and you can clearly see what needs to be trimmed. Mark it with a sharpie, de-mount the bumper and chop chop time. I used a recip. saw and a grinder to clean up the cuts. Much easier than the dovetail.

When dovetailing the bed I would suggest bolting up the bumper and checking that you have it at a height which allows the tailgate to be opened and stood on without touching the bumper. Then mark where you want the cut to begin. Cut the aluminium first, so you can cover any mistakes with the plastic. I used a HF body saw for both and it went pretty smoothly. My rockers are covered with Xpel armor so I wrapped the dovetail with that too to continue the lines and it allowed me to do a less aggressive cut and not have big gaps between the panel and the trim.

I was disappointed that when I got the top of bumper high enough to be in line with the rear quarter trim panels that the tailgate scraped on the centre deck of the bumper (which is already stepped lower than the ends but not low enough). Therefore I needed to drop the bumper down 1/3 inch or so from level.

Also note that without the hitch option there are no recovery points. If you get the hitch option then you lose the ability to run a spare under the bed. This is stated nowhere on there webpage, social media or on any communications from them. 1. There is no hole to access the crank mechanism and 2. a 35 doesn't physically fit between the diff and the hitch. If you run it without the hitch you can reach up under the bumper and insert the shortest OEM piece of the crank shaft in the mechanism and drive it with a 13mm 12pt ratchet box wrench.

Yes, yes, I know that running a spare under there ruins departure angles, yada yada. Mine is not a full time trophy truck so I would like to be able to run the spare under and use the full bed when and if I need. If the hitch was designed slightly differently they could physically fit the spare under.

Overall, it's a great product but if I had my time again I would get the non dovetail bumper instead.

don't have any pictures but I got the idea of what your taking about. My concern was the frame I did not want to do a major cutting job on it will just kill the resale value of the truck over here. But shaving does not sound that bad to me.


When it comes to dovetailing I really appreciate your input as this made the process way easier and I know what will I start with or focus on.

I did order the bumper with the hidden hitch and the high clearance tail pipe so that will eliminate my spare under the bed, So I ordered the

On the other hand I did not see many of these single tire bed mounts so I’ll be doing some research to find something that will suit my needs in terms of looks and functionality.


I will defiantly post some pictures and feedback once I have this bumper installed.


And again I do appreciate your time writing this up as you and a second person are the only guys I know running this bumper and you guys are 16 hours by plane away from me so any info I get is highly appreciated.

I just bought 4 D ring mounts with a bracket and hole to mount, drilled out the hole a little and used the 4 bed mount bolts to hold them down. Then I used 2 ratchet straps crossed to hold the tire down, it has worked fine.

I found a photo. You can see these plates on the end of the frame rails which the stock bumper attaches to. You need to trim the bottom something like the yellow lines I have added. You do not touch the frame rails etc.

How do like they FMI diff skid plate? Does it come powder coated?

My only concern is does it hold water?

Let us know if you find another single wheel, flat carrier. I really like the looks of that. I want to retain my bed cover, and get my spare from the underside of the truck, and a want a no drill mount.

It's nice. I did have to finagle some of the bolts into the diff by jacking underneath the skid. It was only off a little. It's powder coated steel, no aluminium option. It has 2 drain holes drilled. I sprayed the crap out of it with MPHD.
