I'm looking to buy a Gen 1 Raptor and the color I like (Molten Orange) is also one of the first 2 years produced (2011-2012 I believe) so they are quite old. Most of the ones I've seen have between 60K and 120K miles. I'm someone who has never purchased a vehicle used with more than 30,000 and prefers to buy or lease new so I'm struggling with this.

I'm basically trying to figure out the sweet spot in mileage is for purchasing one used. I know the shocks need to be rebuilt every 30,000 miles or so and that runs $1,000 (if what I've read is correct) but what other major repairs come up outside of oil changes, flushes, etc and what mileage do those typically happen? Is 110,000 miles that much worse than 50,000, etc?

Thanks!

I’m in the same exact boat. I want a Gen 1 and there’s an orange one where I live for sale w exactly 100k miles. It’s a decent price for a raptor ($24k) but that high of mileage is going to warrant some questions the dealer prob can’t answer. Guess could really lowball and use the difference for the servicing? I feel your pain

You aren't looking at anything out of the ordinary maintenance wise in the range of 60-100k. Spark plugs would probably be the biggest job. And shocks can last 50k+ depending on how the truck has been used.

The drivetrain in these trucks is extremely solid, 100k is really just getting started as long as it's been maintained.

I had over 130k on my old one with no motor problems before i traded it in. Shocks were probably due for a build though.

I have 84K miles on my 2011 GEN1. There are no problems and there have been no issues. My advice is to absolutely buy a Raptor with a 6.2L V8 in it, and look for one that comes with a maintenance log. Look over that log carefully and see how often the owner changed the oil, what kind of oil and filters he used, whether he had the transmission serviced, whether he had the transfer case and differentials serviced, etc. Anyone who kept a maintenance log was probably motivated to judicial maintenance.

The 6.2 is solid, follow the maintenance manual and it will keep going, I’m approaching 167k on my 2012 and other than the water intrusion on the third brake light which I replaced and sealed better than OEM and an unfortunate first time transmission oil change incident at 56k which was covered under warranty, I have had no other issues.

These engines are stout and reliable, even if you do have problems they aren't exotic so most any repair is going to be easy to fix. Because the same engine was used in the entire F-series line parts availability is really good.
