Any Interests in Titanium Exhaust?

Hello everyone. I’m working with a company that is going to be designing a Titanium exhaust for my 2018 Screw and was just going to check and see if anyone else would be interested.

As of right now I’m leaning towards a DownPipe back non catted version. I just need to double check with my tuner on any issues that might need to be dealt with regarding codes. Last time I talked with him was before I was talking about having a Ti system developed and was just going to use a race exhaust which he said he could take of everything no problem with tuning regarding codes. I didn’t talk to him about it in depth or how he was going to eliminate them so am going to have another chat with him before start the design phase of the Ti system.

Price, I’m gonna just say that I’m helping develop these so I’ll be paying more than the rest of you but that is neither here nor there. With that being said it just doesn’t allow for me to give any kind of estimate yet is all. I can say that it’s not going to be some crazy expensive system by any means. Of course it will be more expensive than the others on the market just because of material costs and the extra Ti labor involved.

Sound is another issue that development stages will just have to sort out and that cost money because of the time involved. The exhaust I’m more focused on is race oriented and focusing on my Raptor’s weight reduction diet plan. I’m hoping I can have a set of rock sliders or boards/steps similar to OEM done at some point as tackling those two items first will save the most weight right off the bat so if anyone knows a company or fabricator that could be interested in making a set of Ti running boards please PM me. Ok back to the sound aspects. Since I’m mainly wanting as small of a system as possible I’m willing to focus less on sound but still have it sound at least as good as stock which shouldn’t be too hard. But for those that might want resonators and/or cats then it could be beneficial for me to have an idea of how many could be interested way the company can spend the appropriate amount on R&D for this customers.

- The metal is more expensive than anything else you could use for an exhaust system, and
- Welding of Ti has to be done in a vacuum chamber. The chamber is expensive, its operation adds to the cost, and technical welders do not work cheap.

Questions:
- What kind of price tag is your guy putting on this?
- When you say "catted Ti downpipes" do you mean to say that your guy can fabricate Ti catalytic converters? What would that add to the price tag???
- What about mufflers? Ti?

Price for race exhaust won’t be anywhere near what systems for exotics cost. From downpipes back we are talking under $5,000 for sure probably quite a bit lower than that if had to put a number on it which I can’t yet. When get closer to final product will be able to do so.

No I’m not saying he can fabricate Ti cats. I haven’t talked to him about a catted version yet but would imagine cats would just be added to the Ti like most other systems.

The whole system will be Ti mufflers, tips, flanges, etc....

Will add more specific details once we get started. Right now I’m in the very beginning stages and still need to talk to the tuner before developing the exhaust.

I “might” try to have downpipes developed at the same time but unsure how much more that would cost if I wanted to help develop a catted version since I’m going completely uncatted with my system as long as the tuner says he can clear the codes or manage them in any way as to just keep them from popping up.

Developing catted Ti downpipes maybe could be possible if I knew there was some interests so just throwing it out there way can possibly gauge the number of people on here that could be interested if the price was right.

you do NOT want Ti downpipes on a raptor that is driven offroad.

Ti really wont bend so easily. If you smack the downpipes on anything, including a skidplate, Ti downpipes would most likely damage your turbos, or at very least sheer turbo studs.

Glad you spoke up because I didn’t even think about them being stiffer/stronger/higher strength in all axis etc... makes perfect sense though!

Yea me too for real. Bet they will save more weight than the exhaust. I can’t find a listed weight of the OEM sliders but someone said he guessed they weighed over 300lbs.

I’ll help with a startup development project just like I’m doing with the exhaust if anyone else would be interested in helping me fund the start up I would appreciate that too lol.

Just PM me if anyone knows a good company or person that could be willing to produce these or if want to offer helping finance the development.

I just want to get as much weight off as possible. The carbon fenders, sides, and hood will help a little but nothing compared to what is possible with these larger steel parts. Wheel manufacturing has made leaps and bounds over the past 5-10 years as far as being able to get a really light set for reasonable pricing without going with carbon.

Skid plates in Ti would be a very simple R&D process too but could also run into some issues of it being too strong and move something on a hard hit or break something on a hard hit instead of just taking the abuse itself. That’s something for someone more knowledgeable with these truck parts than me. But if any of the sections would be suited for a Ti plate that would provide a good weight drop then I’d be in for sure. The jigs are already made for these skid plates so the R&D is complete. We would basically only have to pay for the markup and shipping. I guess some tooling too would be needed to be paid for as well since it would be different than the steel tooling most likely.

No way the stock sliders weigh 300#, probably not even half of that. Would be interested in them though...

I have a great deal of respect for a person having an idea an making things happen. The benefit of this material is strength and weight savings over the more common aftermarket stainless steel. In this however, I feel like a Ti exhaust on a raptor is pointless. The truck is an offroad dirt pounder that often carries in excess of 600 lbs of unsprung weight in the form spare tires, lights, fuel, jacks etc. The weight savings wont be noticed and certainly not worth the material price tag IMO (especially with chinese tarifs). Also, as was pointed out in earlier posts, I dont know that the strengh Ti provides is necessary. If you are smashing exhausts regularlly to the point of repetetive replacement your probably doing it wrong lol

or maybe you just aren't driving hard enough. :)
