My display will lock up from time to time when I plug in my phone.....Do you plug in your phone immediately after startup or do you need to wait a certain amount of time to avoid this issue?

Thanks

I’ve got a 2017, and if I’m honest, I rarely use the plug in / car play. what I did notice last week was - navigating by waze, stopped for gas, when I got back in the cab, iPhone locked, but still had waze navigating. Started truck and it would not recognize the phone until disconnected, left off a few seconds, and reconnected. Like I said, I rarely use CarPlay.

I have found that the biggest factor is making sure your phone is UNLOCKED when you plug it in. If you don't do that, the phone says "unsupported USB" and it never shows up with Car Play on the screen.

1x in like 6 months it locked up so bad I couldnt use the radio. had to turn the car off for 30 minutes and it corrected itself.

Had the display go black several times in the last couple of days. Seems like it happens when I am trying to navigate within Pandora. Happened once while trying to use Google Maps. I usually just blame it on the phone, but that's probably my anti-apple bias.

No, but I've had situations where there's no audio, radio shows inactive, none of the buttons work, but CarPlay still has screen activity. There was a Sync3 update for these in the last couple months, so maybe try that process with the USB stick (youtube or search here for how). You can "reboot" the entertainment system by holding BOTH the next/forward button (to the right of "media") and the power knob button in for 8-10 seconds. Screen will turn black, Sync will reboot, and that's solved all issues.

I think that during car stops/starts, it's going into a sleep/suspend mode where there may be defects in coming back from suspend. This reboot seems to have more success than just car off/car on.

My screen has locked up a few times as well. One time blank/black locked out and at least three occasions where the screen froze and continued to play Sirius but the buttons had no affect. Shutting down the truck, opening/closing door to get full power off, and waiting a few seconds seemed to reboot and return normal function. Every time it happened was while using AppleCarPlay.

I haven't updated SYNC. I will try the manual reboot the next time.

I think it may be that my phone was locked when I plugged it in.....I will start unlocking it prior to connecting and see if that solves the issue...Thx

I’ve noticed that I have the fewest issues on my 2019 if I plug it in after the car has time to boot up. Then I unlock the phone and open a CarPlay compatible app (Waze), and only then do I plug it in. If I do this, it almost never freezes.

As others have mentioned, updates to Sync probably help. I will try the reboot method next time mine freezes.

I guess I am old-school because I have a powered holder I put my phone in and never bother with CarPlay. I have not had radio lock-ups or freezes on my 2018 in almost 1.5 years.

Questions.. I've been waiting for thread about this..

you guys having these quirks with radio.. did you do the forscan mod for the speakers? or any for that matter? curious. i've had things go whacky too--best bet is to wait for the thing to boot. remember, these are actual computers booting up now. so many things talking to each other now, it's best to wait to connect I found.

I was a huge carplay fan for awhile, then it just became little annoying once in awhile so turned off in settings and i was using the silly alexa for music ( my son had some songs thru amazon that wanted to hear more often than not.. )

My question part of this, that for about month or two.. when ever my phone connects to truck via BT ( which how I let it connect most all the time now ) the frckn ringer volume sets to the highest possible setting. EVERYTIME. So, when I'm in office, at home, where ever i might be, the phone rings and scares the shit outta me cause full volume ( which also seems off as don't remember it ever being THAT loud. )

I've gone into settings in the truck, and my phone and don't see anywhere that this is a 'setting' . I have an iphone 7+ with current OS (thought it would address the issue, :( ) and an 18 raptor.

anyone else experiencing this with their phones??
