can TCM relearn bad habits?

It's the TCM, and there was a service call for it. That's what I was referring to.

And I wasn't commenting on your comment. I was answering how to clear the trans adaptive learning.

The PCM contains both fuel trim settings and the transmission settings!
It is generally a combined control unit, consisting of the engine control unit (ECU) and the transmission control unit (TCU)

I don't understand were people are getting there are two separate computers.
It's one computer with both software modules embedded in it.

So when you do a battery disconnect you are clearing both and some settings in the BCM and Nav unit.

If you do the battery disconnect and reset the ecu, do you have to reload the Cobb tune afterwards or does it retain?

All your resetting is the adaptive learning table, so there isn't any need to reflash the Tune.

Also incase some of you didn't know just pressing and holding the MPG button does reset some of the fuel trim learning table.

FYI:
Fuel Trim learning table completes in around 50 +/- miles with a 6 hr. PCM clock shut off.
A complete Trans learning adaptive table cycle is around 300 miles.

Fwiw, I tried resetting the “learned” state back to factory by disconnecting the battery and it did not work. Had it disconnected for about an hour at least.

Transmission still slammed into drive when shifting the gear selector. Still lurched between 3rd and 4th. Still had the harsh down shifts in stop and go.

Whatever the dealer does to reset it does work though. Must be a lower level non-volatile memory. Unless I did it wrong, and I can’t imagine an hour wasnt sufficient, the battery disconnect does not reset the adaptive learning...

Forscan has a feature to reset the PCM though, I wonder if that would do the trick.

Gen 2's have a different way to reset the MPG, you have to go through the menu.
I have not physical sat in a Gen 2 and played with on dash menus so I'm not well versed in that area.

In the Gen 1's you scroll through your display when you come to MPGs you just hold it and it will reset.
If you do it sitting it will be 0.0
If you do it on the highway without pushing the gas pedal it will show 99.9 LOL

The adaptive learning is always reentering new values it's not a one time thing.

The dealer must be reflashing, it's quicker than a battery disconnect.

Ok, but clearing the KAM is not the same as resetting the adaptive learning tables.

KAM holds any faults in a given drive cycle, any OBDII scanner can clear that.

Three drive cycles in a row with the same error codes then they become permanent.
Then it's a reflash of the tune to clear them.

Yeah, that’s not true. You realize that when you disconnect the battery like you said earlier ( provided you drain all residual power held in the PCM), is clearing the KAM and you’re resetting the tables.
