Cold transmission lurches between 3rd and 5th gear. Common?

Anyone else experience this? Happens always on the first drive of the day, with the engine remote-start warmed up for about 60s. Slow to moderate acceleration pulling into the street. Happens when the truck is up shifting from 3rd to 4th.

It’s really an odd sensation that’s hard to describe. My body goes forward, then finally shifts and I go backwards. If I was holding a cup of coffee I’d almost certainly spill it.

I wont say is normal but maybe a Raptor 10 speed normal! It happens to me but it goes away immediately after it warms up. There are other threads where you can see that some are experiencing similar issues and some are fairly bad.

@b0yd07 I thought I had replied to this thread a while back, but I guess not. I had all of the same symptoms you have with my truck. The dealership reflashed the TCM and PCM and also did multiple transmission relearns with the Ford IDS. Finally they actually looked in to it and pulled the Main Body Control Valve and found one of the valves sticking. They replaced the control valve and all has been good since. This was over a month ago now. It will shift a little firmer sometimes or when cold, but it’s absolutely 100% better than before.

Interesting!!!

Did you by chance have the issue of your truck slamming really hard into Drive? (Shifting from P/R/N into D)

I’ve spent a lot of time researching this on other forums (Mustang GT, Ford GT) and my next idea was the valve body cover. Interesting that yours was the valve itself.

I had the tsb done about two months ago and it’s all (both of these symptoms) slowly but surely returning. My truck has been to the shop three times now for this and they’ve done the relearn every time and sent me on my way. That corrected it for about a month before it returned.

Can you do me a huge favor and see if you can dig up the paperwork the dealership printed out for you? If I could get that and take that to my dealership... maybe they’d be open to investigating a tear down like that if they know it was successful for another dealership.

Yup. I was dealing with it until it started slamming/lurching in to gear when going in to drive and finally took it back in. I just looked for the print out and can’t remember where I put it. I’ll keep an eye out for it and send it to you as soon as I find it.
