I hope they put that engine in the next Gen Raptor!

Putting the engine in is the easy part. Since it's just a punched out/blown 5.0L Coyote, it obviously fits in the engine bay, bolts up to all their transmissions, Ford has it certified through the EPA, etc.

Keeping a transmission, front and rear axle alive behind that engine would be the challenge.

The current transmission used in the Raptor isn't rated for that much torque. If the V8 rumors are true and they do go with this engine, they're either going to have to de-tune it or use the new Super Duty 10sp.

Nobody really knows anything about either engine's power curve, but I think it's a safe bet that the 7.3 will be a torque monster down low and the 5.2 will need to rev. So with that said, I'm hoping the new Raptor gets the 7.3 V8 rather than the 5.2 (even if it's down on peak power).

The s/c 5.2 will not need to rev to make torque. With a PD blower the torque curve is as flat as can be. The s/c 5.2L will easily outperform the n/a 7.3L at all RPMs.

On the flip side, the cast iron blocked pushrod 7.3L will easily outlast the S/C 5.2L. The 5.2L has an aluminum spray bore block and complicated 4V valve train with 6 ft long timing chains, tensioners and cam phasers hung all over the front of it. Pretty much the exact same situation between the 6.2L in the Gen 1 and the TT V6 in the Gen 2. One is built to last, one is built for speed.

I forgot to mention cooling. Seems Ford had to do quite a bit to the GT500 to keep her cool, and I'm just imagining what that will mean for the Raptor when rock crawling in desert climate.

One thing is for sure though - I'd be happy with either engine.

The Mustang has nowhere near the real estate up front like the Raptor.
Bigger radiators are already available for the Raptor, bigger Heat exchangers with fans as well.
I'm good with my setup.
