Hello all. So I’ve had my 18 for a while now (9 months or so) and have had a set of Fox 3.0s setting in the garage gathering dust. This is the first time I’ve ever owned a truck like this and have decided that I want to keep it in true form as an off road monster but take it to the next level.

When I purchased the 3.0s it was basically a spur of the moment type deal because I didn’t want a good deal to slip away. I hadn’t owned the truck long and hadn’t researched how these trucks were upgraded with Mid/Long travel kits that most often use smaller coil overs. So for a while I thought about just raising the truck but the more and more I learned about Prerunners and race trucks I decided that carbon fenders and sides were the direction I really wanted to go even though I’ll never come close to maxing out its stock abilities. The look and down right capabilities of Mid/Long travel just have me hooked to say the least!!!

Well now that I know which direction I want to go with the truck build I need some help with my options to get there. I would like to be able to use my full set of Fox 3.0s (Front and Rear) for a Mid travel kit that will work with extended axels and carbon fenders and sides. I haven’t decided if I will go through the bed at some point in the future but would like to start without a rack for sure.

Are there any ways to get Mid/Long travel with the Fox 3.0s? I’d like a setup that will allow me to start off with just the shocks I currently have with the ability to add to it later if at all possible. I also have the SVC adjustable Fox bump which is also collecting dust. All I have done is the SVC frame cut Baja bumper and Intercooler so far.

Hope you all can give me some options to choose from!

I would reach out to SVC or RPG and talk to them. I use mine with 3.0's and find it to be fine. If I wanted more of a trophy truck I would have bought a cheap truck and upgraded everything .

Remember the Raptor is made for an awesome daily driver that can hit the dirt and perform. You can't have it both ways, you can but it won't be the best for either type of driving.

Throw the 3.0's on and enjoy the stock truck, if you don't use it much and go 100 through the whoops and jump, stock will be enough for you

My wife thinks I only have 3 guns

I agree 3.0s will work just fine but I want larger tires and fenders etc... I want that look and ability to go off road when I actually can. I might not go off road more than once or twice a year but having the 37-38” tires and killer looks of fenders is my main focus behind drivetrain. I’ll be upgrading that as parts are being released. Robby Woods has some nice stuff in the works for that too.

if you choose to go with "the Kit" on the market that lets you use stock replacement 3.0" coilovers, you're going to have to deal with the following caveats...

1. The geometry of how and where the coilover mounts is not changed from stock, yet the arms are 3" longer. This creates WAY more work for a single 3.0 to do. you're going to always want for more shock, and you're going to roast those 3.0s, as they were never designed to be beat on like that.

And food for thought, 2.5 COs + 3.5s are LIGHTYEARS better in the dirt than a 3.0. The 2.5s are much less expensive than a 3.0, so if you sold your 3.0s, the delta isnt that extreme.

2. The kit on the market that allows you to use 3.0s, at full bump, 100% will lay front crossmember in the dirt. This is not a good thing. I dont know if youve ever experienced taking a hard kit to the frame or a skidplate when fully stuffed, but it SUUUUUUUUCKS.

On the last two EXO trips to baja, I'd say 90% of the trucks were running an SVC midtravel kit. I am unaware of any breakage issues ( on the svc suspension parts). There is a REALLY good reason why so many of these folks that can literally afford whatever front suspension kit that theyd like, choose to run SVC. Shit just works.

My truck was one of the first gen2s with a midtravel kit on it. It is MONEY. I now have about 6-7K dirt miles on mine. It is dialed. I dont want for more. 200+ high speed miles, including REALLY fun rhythm whoops outside of scorpion bay Had me smiling ear to ear and the shocks were luke-warm .

By comparison, those running fox 3.0s with other kits could light a cigarette off the shock bodies.

Anywho, there's my real-world insight. SVC gets my money. It honestly isn't even a debate.

Yea I love your truck and followed your build(s) since just about all the cosmetic stuff on it is in line with what I want not to mention the shocks.

My reasoning for wanting to use 3.0s as a start then add to is because I will NEVER use any suspension setup (even stock) anywhere near its limits. Like, I’ll never cage this cab for sure and will only see trails that have high speed sections if I travel a thousand miles just for that purpose alone. I do plan on doing just that at some point but with my whole family in the truck so wouldn’t go fast enough to put any of them in danger. I’m older now so slow and steady with a cup of coffee is just as fun for me now as catfishing is for cat-fishermen if you get what I’m saying.

We have a race built KTM 525xc and RZR for fast off roaring. I just can’t do that stuff any longer with a bad back; although, I still love being around it and can cruise in style similar to a mall crawler. Going off reading around here in a truck is almost always at a snails pace until pull up at a mud run. There just aren’t any trails large enough for buggies or trucks to open up on like there are for UTVs and ATVs.

I would love to be able to just drop the coin on an entire kit plus shocks and labor but you if all people know how much it cost to add carbon all around, paint, labor, MT kit, labor, new wheels, new tires, etc...

That’s why I’m searching for a way to build the MT/LT over time while using the 3.0s I already have. There may not be a way to do that and I’ll just have to sell my set and save up to have it all done at once. I was just wanting to go ahead and install my 3.0s, Deaver +3s, and any parts (UCA, Tie Rods, or whatever would work) that would work with the 35s and OEM fenders until could throw the rest on at same time. There may not be a way to do that either. I’m not very good with all this since every bit of custom 4x4 Prerunner style suspension was foreign to me just a few months ago.

How much does a new unused set of Fox 3.0s go for from person to person just out of curiosity so will give me a better idea on how much of the kit I will need to purchase after selling them?

I’ve been researching a little more and can’t find a price for the 2.5 COs and 3.5s since I don’t the specific shocks IDs.

Can you tell me what they run or PM me what they run if that is against the rules here please?

I’ve been trying to find what the total price difference will be between RPG and SVC once ALL the parts added up.

The kit you spoke about earlier that uses a 3.0 and smacks the ground isn’t the Blitzkrieg one is it? If not which one is it that you saw basically fail?

it is one of the two that you're considering. Hint: it isn't SVC. I can't give you pricing, but SVC or any of their vendors can do that. You should seriously call and talk to Jeff of Jarrett at SVC about the nuances of their kit. I will put my sentiment like this... I would not trade my svc kit for a bolt kit, even if I was being offered a stack of cash to make the swap and all the parts were free. If the SVC kit is more expensive that RPGs, you'll break even based on not having to rebuild your shocks and coilovers as often as you would with the bolt kit.

I gotcha. That’s what I figured.

Have you seen many or any running blitzkrieg stuff? It seems pretty popular on Instagram but haven’t read anything about it on here I don’t think.

I love SVC and their customer support is beyond great. They are definitely at the top of my list just wish they had better instructions with their stuff. That’s the only bad I can say other than the mounting bolts for my Baja bumper didn’t fit through my trucks frame holes and had to grind off some of their nice coating and ream out the hole on the bumper mount just to force the it into place. That’s just part of fabrication work with this stuff is my guess though. Everything isn’t perfect from Ford so even if the jig for the bumper was perfect an 1/8” off centered hole (from who knows where) can cause an hours extra work.

I’ll give him a call this week and see what he says about my shocks value and price offsets etc... I assume I can use my rear 3.0s with just about any kit but will go over that too just to make sure I don’t need to sell them as well. A low profile rack for rear shocks is most likely in my future so don’t want to take any steps backwards from whatever I put on to start.

Thanks for the encouragement lol.

Oh yea, which axles are you running?

I'm running the axles that come with the svc kit. I'm seriously considering just making my truck 2wd though. I didnt shift into 4wd once on the last trip. It doesnt matter what shocks you have or go with. ( I have king kong 4.0s), a rear leaf spring suspension doesnt have a chance of keeping up with the mid travel kit. I'm learning to drive with the front suspension and try to avoid things with the rear ( to a degree). I really wish that I hadnt lost two of my gopros on the last day of this trip, those cameras had some really killer footage of what I was driving through smoothly from the tire's perspective. youd see what their kit is capable of. it is kind of nuts what it can do.
