Look at the total sales of this transmission in both ford and gm , the people having a major issue is small. Large companies look at percentages, does not make it any better for people who issues though. I would be just as mad, if I was having the issues some say they have here. Also, corrected my spelling issue in my previous post. You guys are harsh,Lol.

Small chance you may have an issue but when you do, they can't fix it. They replace it with another probably rebuilt transmission that will also break. If it breaks once, there is a HUGE chance its not getting fixed properly, ever. Better plan on trading it in.

My '17 was hard shifting as well primarily in the mornings or on cold starts. It would subside throughout the drive but you could still really feel it when it downshifts towards a stop. I had the 4WD grinding (vacuum check valve hose) issue which was causing grinding and 2WD not fully engaging so when I had that repair done, they flashed the trans also. Made a huge difference in the way the truck drove, imo. Not that this is at all related to the OP's issue but something worth sharing if this could help?

My transmission completely failed after only 500 miles. Got Ford to replace it vs. repair it and haven’t had any major issues since (18,500 miles later). It’ll still downshift aggressively every once in awhile while in sport mode, but other than that it’s fine. Worst part for me is the mental game - another transmission failure is going to haunt me to some degree forever now...just hoping it doesn’t happen again, and not when I’m 70 miles into the backcountry.

Update: currently the truck is sitting at DePaula Ford getting the heat shielding replaced because the last dealer lost 4 of the bolts that hold the heat shield on. They said that there was still residual oil and that it’s not leaking anymore and the oil in my driveway was residual. I have been on the phone with Ford Corporate and they said they will give me some plan that will cover my oil changes and tire rotation till 75k for all the troubles I’ve gone through. I asked if that will cover the full synthetic I put in the truck and the case worker said no so I said that’s useless to me because I have a car lift and can do the rotation and oil change myself. She then came back with the premium care service plan. So my truck will be covered till 75k. What this means to me is that I will abuse the every part of this poor truck and trade it in at 70k

Premium care extended service plan is the best extended warranty, but it's still is not as comprehensive as the original 3/36 bumper to bumper warranty.

At the bottom of this PDF in the tan colored area is what's NOT covered.

I'd make sure they gave you the Premium Care ESP with the lowest deductible too.
