From 2017 to mid 2019, Ford calls for 5W-30 synthetic blend oil in the Raptor. This is the "recommended" oil. Full synthetic is "optional." They also call for orange coolant. In the updated owners supplement for 2019, Ford changed to recommending full synthetic oil and yellow coolant. Anyone know exactly why the change after almost 3 years?

I know there were several service bulletins for heater core problems in different vehicles using orange coolant. The Raptor falls under one of the SB's. The procedure calls for a coolant flush and replacement with yellow coolant. Apparently deposits build up in the heater core and can cause restrictions when using orange coolant. Could this be why?

I have no speculations on why the sudden change in oil specs. The consumption issue should be irrelevant.

I don't know about the Ford orange antifreeze having issues,
I've been running the Ford orange for 9 years with only one flush and new fluid.
No problems here.
Now I'm sure there are a lot of guys in those hot states that have pushed the temp on their gauges quite often and should be replacing the fluid more than they think.

The Ford Gold antifreeze (Yellow/Clear) has been around for a long time and it's what is running in my heat exchanger to intercooler for the past 7 1/2 years.

I think Ford is just cleaning and reducing their toxic chemical inventory.
Don't forget, it's all about the money.
And lets not forget any new EPA rules

I do have a problem with Ford getting rid of their transfer case fluid and is now telling us regular trans fluid is good enough, only time will tell if this true.

So is there a actual statement to move from orange to the new ford yellow coolant that has started showing up factory fill in 2019 models.

i have a mid 2018 built raptor with orange fill. If yellow is better id flush and fill but dont want problems with warranty.

The orange stuff if likely a version of Dexcool. That stuff is known to form deposits in small passages and seal small leaks. Not good for heater cores.

From reading several Antifreeze manufacturing websites,
they all state to stick with the recommendation of the vehicle manufacturer.
There are reasons why they use different antifreeze,
one in particular is what metals, hoses and soldier are being used in the radiator and heater cores.
So I wouldn't change antifreeze thinking one is better than the other.
They all have to same temperature range!!!

Basically, we need to confirm what Ford has changed with the coolant system for the 2019-2020 Raptors before any assumptions can be made weather to change the Antifreeze.

Now go back and look at the last Raptor Supplement dated 7/16/2019....
And it calls for the Synthetic Blend Oil again.
Dont know why the change back and forth.
Im doing the Full Synthetic now and plan to stay.
I’ve had to ask Auto Parts stores to order the Motorcraft Full Synthetic because most places only carry the Blend
