Cheap Tailgate hardware

has anyone else had issues with the cover for the tailgate step getting ripped off by things getting taken out of their bed? Seems like a really cheap set up for that tailgate step which I have never even used. Curious if anyone else has had this problem

i tore mine off on my gen 1 when the tread of my shoe caught it as i was stepping down. it happened a couple years ago. i kinda just said screw it and havent bothered with fixing or replacing it.

Sadly yes, several times. It doesn’t quite go back flat anymore. grrr

Yep it comes off all the time, I was thinking about seeing if they would warranty it but I just bought an extra new one so when it rips off it doesn’t hurt my feelings knowing I have a fresh one when I want.

Mine rips off every time I roll a log out the back. I do a lot of firewood hauling including using the tailgate step for leverage while rolling a log into the truck. I’m shocked that hasn’t snapped off yet.

Anyone have the part number for a replacement for the cheap plastics piece?

Wow, $60 is still ridiculous for that price of plastic but I’ll take it, thanks for the info.
