Trying to track the wheels by the position of a center cap is a fool's errand. Most likely explanation is what 1bad454ssv2 said above, the lugs and center cap stayed in position while the wheels and tires moved around. If you want to go to the dealer playing Perry Mason, mark the tires on the insides really subtly with chalk.
IF they did a rebalance at same time that may be why the cap was in same spot. Measure your tread depth on each tire , if they truly did rotate, I would say your rear tires should have a tad more tread than your front tires currently .
Btw was the tyre valve cap, not the center cap that tipped me off

I always mark two of the tires with a swipe from a white grease pencil so I can tell if they rotated. I caught the Chevy dealer with the same thing a few years ago using this method when I owned a Silverado.

The tried to tell me they only rotate if they measure a tread depth difference. I said BS...tread depth doesn't account for sidewall flex wear on front vs rear...Told them I will wait while they rotate...they did. Got an apologetic call from the service manager a few days later.

so the other day I brought my truck in for service...oil and tire rotation. The week before I lost one my tire cap on the beach, so I installed a different one on the passenger rear tire. When I got my car back I visually inspected it, as usual after service, and realized that the tires were not rotated, since the different cap was in the same spot. We had a nice big argument about it. Now I sent my oil for testing to see if they changed it.
Anybody with experience on that?

I had the exact opposite problem with my dealer because they try to rotate my tires even though I do that myself! I hide my wheel locks and even put sticky pads on the wheels once "no rotation" and they still did it.

It only happened twice out of all the times I went and that's pretty much the only real complaint I have with them. Other than that my service usually goes very well. I am curious to see how your oil test turns out.

I’ve got a Jeep dealership here that does stuff like that. One day I sat in the waiting room all day for a recall. When I got my Jeep back there was no difference. When I called Jeep to complain they said the recall kits were on backorder so there’s no way they could have done the recall. They just had me wait a believable length of time.
