I just fitted a retrax pro xr yesterday. whole thing went on well and seems to be pretty good quality components, but the finish just seems so inconsistent.

anyone else have the same? the aluminum slats are clearly coated before assembly and it looks like the ones used on my cover were coated at different times by different people. i have 2 or 3 slats that stand out against the others as they are virtually semi gloss finish, whereas the remainder are a matt finish.

I think the attached photo shows what i mean.

Just installed one on my '19. My slats all match really well. That would drive me crazy. I'd call them. For as much money as these things cost, you shouldn't have to compromise on something like that imo.

I have this same cover and the paint/coating is very consistent.

Now looking to buy the Yakima attachments for the slots.

Curious how this cover has performed for you guys in the rain.

I had one of the automatic ones installed before I took delivery. I noticed that I couldn't open the cover without pushing it 1st (which kind of defeats the purpose of the automatic cover). They determined it didn't have a limit switch on it, so it was closing too far. Retrax replaced it.

Went out of town last weekend and my truck was parked outside in the rain overnight. I opened the bed up to put my golf shoes on the next morning and they were SOAKED. Not damp, soaked. There was a ton of water in both corners towards the tailgate. There was also a fair amount of water at the front of the trunk bed near the housing.

I took it back to the place that installed it a 2nd time, and they did a test with a hose and saw the same water intrusion. He said he's never seen that happen, but he's only installed a handful of the aluminum covers...most of his customers opt for the Retrax One. His theory is that because the polycarbonate is 1 piece it's providing a better seal.

What have you guys seen with your aluminum covers?

Have another installer look at it.

Granted mine is the manual retrax. It’s parked strictly outside and seen dozens of storms and automatic car washes and all my gear is dry. Only area that gets some water is the tailgate itself.

I enjoy my Retrax Pro a lot, and have yet to have any complaints at all, mine is also manual and installed by the best in town, so no issues.
