Its the gas station doing this, not the banks or credit card companies. When you swipe your card, it pre-approves an amount that is set by the gas station. Once you hit that, it shuts off because the card was not approved any higher. Swiping the card twice is risky because it looks like two identical pre-approvals in a short time frame.

I have had a larger tank 34+ since 2008 when gas was high then too. So fill ups over $100 has been no big deal for over 10 years, get used to it.

Take your credit card inside and have them turn the pump on so it won’t turn off on you, problem solved. And get some exercise to boot.

Who puts that hold on your card when you pay at the pump -- the gas ...https://www.cleveland.com/business/2014/09/who_puts_that_hold_on_your_car.html[/URL]

I’ve called my AMEX and they do not put any kind of limit or hold on my card when I swipe it at a gas station, none. Same with my other business credit cards. It might be different with a debit card but I don’t use debit cards ever, dumbest card ever invented. Tap directly into my account, no thank you. Would rather the credit card company be the middle man and earn cash back instead.

I never spend more than $17 for a fill-up! And that is here in California!

Sure I stop and get gas every 40 miles but who cares, it only costs me $17 to fill my Raptor!

You must be getting better mileage than me...I have to put in $20 each time...and we are getting ***** just as bad in WA. as you guys in CA....And besides..gassing up is part of the fun of driving it...I always get some sort of comment...Had a gal come running out of station last week screaming...IS THAT A FORD SHELBY,I use to own a Shelby Mustang...didnt know they made a pick-up...IS IT A FORD??" Then I had to give her the "Tour".LOL
