My Raptor is bouncing/shaking!

Hey guys,

I apologize in advance if this is posted in the wrong section as I am not very active on here.

Two weeks ago I installed 37" tires on my Raptor. Ever since installing them (at least I assume it is because of them) the car randomly bounces on certain roads. Almost like if the road is not straight or whatever it is then the car will bounce up and down at a very high frequency (by bounce I mean its a strong vibration, but not like that when you have your alignment off, but almost a feeling like your car is shaking up and own)

I've tried alignment, but the problem still persists. What could it be? Is it the shocks?

Any input/feedback would be much appreciated!

Bad tire or poor balance job on tires . get a road force balance and run 37 inch tires around 38 to 40 psi

If the tires are so bad that they won't balance you can try running ceramic beads inside them.

So you guys I recommend go back to the alignment shop and tell them that the tires need a better alignment?

Like the other guys said - have the tires re-balanced but check your air pressure first to make sure that isn't the culprit.

Is the problem only noticeable at a certain MPH on the road or does it vary with speed? Were the tires installed at a national tire chain store or a local shop ?

If the place that initially mounted/balanced 'em can't correct the issue, try another shop that has more experience with "larger" truck/Jeep/offroad tire mounting/balance work.

Had the same issue. I did the road force balance and no more shaking after that.

So the same issue as in it felt almost like it was bouncing? And the road force balance fixed it? Not the wheel alignment?

I think you have massive confusion on what exactly a wheel alignment does.....

What @Swacer said.

alignment won’t cure or remediate a bounce / vibration like you’re describing. bad alignment will very quickly wear either the inside or outside of your tires, cause you to drift or pull in one or the other direction most commonly.

bounce that you’re describing can be caused by
poor tire balance or no balance.
tire out of round
wheel that is bent or out of round
tire/tires that are grossly overinflated.

The 35” KO2’s are hard to balance, I can only imagine the heavier KM3 aren’t any easier. Unfortunately when this happens, 99% of tire shops are completely unprepared for diagnostics. If you’ve changed “more than one thing” they’re going to try and blame your parts (plural) and feign ignorance.

Make sure you have wheel weights on all the wheels. I’ve had a shop forget this. If there are weights then chances are you probably have either an ineffective wheel balance or possibly a bad tire.

Less likely, a bent or out of round wheel. I had an old Exploder with a bum wheel and caused that shake you describe when it was front mounted. in the rear, it was far more tolerable, but still bad.
