Sport Mode Question

Trying Sport mode today to see how the truck handles. Punched it and accelerated up to 60 quickly and truck felt like it was not wanting to upshift. Looked down at the gear selection and it was stuck in 4th.

This can’t be normal as I must be doing something wrong?

Normal, keeps the turbos spooled.

When in Baja I cruise 60-70 all in 3rd gear

My wife thinks I only have 3 guns

What he said. Sport, M&S and Baja will hold gears longer, trying to anticipate you’ll get back on the throttle again soon and keep you in the power band.

It will eventually figure out you’re done and upshift but unless it’s just not possible it’s going to try and maintain about 1900 rpms minimum

Thought I was going to blow up the trans. Raptor is engineering marvel. Definitely very different driving experience than any other truck/ or car that I’ve owned.

Tow is between normal and sport. Downshifts and holds rpms. Good driving choice in traffic. If you are at 70 it will lock into 10th

If you know you’re going to wind up in stop & go traffic or if you’re going to be driving in more congested 25-40mph city/town speed zones there’s no reason to put in sport b/c the minute you start hustling it wants to rev & hold gears.

If I’m driving interstate and more open roads, winding back roads w/ low traffic, then sport mode is where it’s at. I also think the tranny takes a good 1500-2000 miles before it starts acting “normal” relative to your driving habits. You can get sport mode to behave fairly docile around town but requires very light throttle inputs. I really like sport mode in 4A - helps to let you use all the power on tap & corners better. It’s great when the roads are a little slick & you still wanna get on it.

I’m weary of doing a tune until a company like Cobb offers a tranny tune along w/ the engine tune to compliment the added power better- I have a feeling sport mode in factory programming + aftermarket tune (especially a “custom” one) may result in sport mode being a bit unruly from a shifting standpoint.

Im just getting done with my breakin, so tried Sport mode for the first time today. It put a smile on my face!

I actually prefer sport mode in stop and go, and just above stop and go traffic to keep the gap to the car in front down, which reduces the time to open road significantly.

I usually shift manually when in Sport mode...you can manually short shift it a bit...

Yeah, I’ve used manual mode a few times but... I have to admit, every time I use it in traffic I keep hearing “I can’t drive 55” in my head.
