IWE Vacuum repair

At 113k miles my 2011 started to sound like it was “kicking a Tin can” down the road. After a little research I found the vacuum line to the IWE on the passenger side to be cracked. Luckily ford failsafe with no vacuum is to 4WD. So I could drive it around in 4WD if needed without the “tin can” sound.

I ordered up an entire new vacuum line for the front of the truck and iwe valve.

But it was too short by 4-5 inches on each end, I was able to save the old rubber hoses and splice them in, which actually helped since my truck is mid perch.

It took about 30 min to swap the line and valve out.

No more “kicking a can” sound and gas mileage is back up!

Sounds like they sent you the regular f150 lines. Glad you got it sorted out. The truck actually doesn't go full 4wd when the vaccum lines fail, the IWE's just stop disengaging, you have to select 4x4 which again, is good peace of mind. You didn't want to go aftermarket?

Fully aware of the 4x needed to be selected... but still a pain in the ass driving around in 4wd all the time.

Honestly didn’t know there was an aftermarket option.... tell me more!

I’m interested in a aftermarket solution as well...

I did the Dorman vacuum block off aka delete set the other day. When I first got the truck I had no idea about IWE but have driven Ford Expedition 4x4 and F250 4x4 the last nine years.
I’m 50 years old and have had a 4 wheel drive truck, Jeep or car everyday of my life since age 14 so I’m way too old school for vacuum.
Remarkably I did not see drop off in mpg. I was bad before and stayed right at bad which, I thought, was not too bad.

Same here though I went with the RCV Eliminators. I can see MPG as high as 15MPG if I don't drive like a mad man and its the same with the Eliminators. 4WD has been rock solid for the past 7k miles since I removed the IWE's.

I had the can down the highway noise a or so ago.....but now the 4A will pop back to 2 whenever it feels like it. Is that also an indicator of bad IWEs?

could be

RCV eliminator hubs are they way to go. No more IWE. Fords the only manufacturer i know of that has IWE. Worth the $ to switch.
