I have an 18 raptor and am very familiar with the vipor products. I had one on my 2012 raptor. The ford app is excellent, reliable and gives you info on your truck like fuel level, etc. Best part is it is free! no subscription.

Is there anyway to use your phone to let the truck sense you instead of using the fob? This seems to be way the industry is going, just curious if there is a current way to use your phone to go fob-less.

No. not sure what the benefit would be because you need the fob to start the truck.
if you could use your phone to remote start, unlock and start the car with no fob how would you valet park your car?

You would have to ask all the other manufacturers that are going this way. Carrying a keyfob is so 2020.
