Hey guys, so as bad as I want a big brake kit I don’t think I can spend 6,000 on a set of brakes. I was wondering if anyone else was running the R1 concepts drilled rotors/posi quiet pads kit. Was thinking about doing these plus brake lines and better fluid. I was hoping to get real world feedback as to whether this will get rid of some of sponginess and overall inadequate stock brakes? Thanks! Any info is super appreciated

drilled is for looks these days, even Porsche engineers came out and said the only reason they have drilled rotors is because customers like them. Outside of that, unless they're high end rotors (I'm not familiar with these) the holes really are drilled vs being cast and are far more prone to cracking.

I put the R1 Concept cross-drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic pads on my Raptor. They went on super quick and super easy. They look fantastic! The performance is better. Is it night and day difference? No. The brakes on the Raptor are definitely a weak link. Any improvement is welcomed. I replaced the rotors and brake pads at 5K miles because I felt the mass of the wheels and tires on the Raptor definitely hurt its stopping ability. I would definitely upgrade as I paid like $350 for the whole kit on eBay, front and rears included. I'm not sure I could buy new OEM rotors alone from Ford for that much!! I tow a 7,000 lb boat with my Raptor and they haven't warped on me yet. I say go for it. It's not a big investment.

BTW - I have a perfectly good set of OEM Raptor brake pads and rotors available (5K miles) if anyone wants them. Just pay for shipping. I hate to throw them out because they are so new.

During my track days I would use slotted over drilled. Drilled is vulnerable to cracking while racing, but for daily driving you are fine.

The Raptor brakes are not that bad. the problem is, they are tuned for off road use. and most of us are used to street tuned brakes.

if you stand on the brakes of a stock raptor, they will "lock up" (trigger abs) with zero problem. the problem is you have to stand on the to do this. but you are getting maximum stopping power.

Most street / performance cars are tuned with much less pedal travel and bite for the street. if you do that off road, you will constantly be in the ABS and that is not good. the long pedal travel of the stock brakes give plenty of room for driver modulation.

just my .02¢

Not a GEN2 but I upgraded to a brand called Brake Performance that were slotted and drilled. They were terrible, worse than stock. And squealed like crazy.

Less than a year later, I upgraded to the Freedom Motorsports R1 package that uses different pads than what R1 offers (they aren’t that great from what I’ve heard) so it was worth the upgrade to get better pads to go with them.

For me, day and night difference from the Brake Performance ones and day and dusk difference from stock. I also later upgraded the brake lines to SS.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the drilling of R1’s, they have a lifetime warranty against cracking. I’ve been on this forum for 6 years and have never once seen anyone post about that happening which what Freedom sells and raptor owners drive these trucks hard, at least I do daily and especially off-road.

When I need to stop I don't want to have to "stand on the brakes" that approach is unsafe. The stock brakes had to go.

I replaced OEM with the R1 ceramic and rotors all around. Big (20-30% better IMO) improvement. I got the opportunity to buy the Alcons for a great price so I did it.
They are better than the R1s but not $5K better....There you go

Awesome! Did you do bake lines too or just the brake kit?
