Pros and Cons to both...and think a big factor is who's going to remove and reinstall the either of them....because I've found since I'm no longer to really "work" on my vehicles due to back injury,the Labor can eat you alive...sure a "take-out" would be the way to go as far as upfront costs,but it better have a good warranty and better have a good trusted shop do the work...I've had experience with a ReMan engine and can say EricM is correct...had one installed in my Corvette...and went turn 2 years of Hell as it was shit from day one and had to be replaced 2 times..!! I'm just glad I wasnt doing the work,and if I didnt have a long time trusted shop do the work,it might of turned into 3 years of hell...they had to deal with the installs and reinstalls,and didnt cost me extra,only that I didnt have a car to drive for almost 2 years..!! So,its really a crap shoot on which way to go...just make sure its either rebuilt or a local take-out...someplace you can walk in the door and bitch....I'd be very careful doing the online or shipping route..IMHO

From the Factory Remanufactured?

Plenty of Raptor owners have had their engines replaced by Ford with a Factory Reman, I've never heard a problem.

My ReMan was for a ,sorry guys..a CHEVY....but a 63 Corvette,so dont give me too much shit..LOL...
It WASNT a "Factory" Reman....BUT...it was from a very large well know ReMan/Parts/Racing company,wont mention any names,due to the Shark Lawyers..LOL...but this wasnt some crate engine shipped from China.....well..guess it could of been....So,IF your gonna go the ReMan route,YES....its gonna cost big bucks to have done at dealer,but would think you stand better chance with the Warranty with Crate Engine from Ford Dealer....

I went through the same as you with my 67 Buick GS. Having a speed shop rebuild your engine is a crap shoot.

Having a factory rebuild is quite different,
basically the same as tools and machines are used and then run through the same break-in machine as a new one does.

Shoehorning a 3.5 in there is not an option. That would be a huge waste of time and $ for me. That motor won't make 600+ reliably and it would be a nightmare to tune, if possible. I'm not trying to reinvent the raptor here. I just want my fun truck back on the road.

So is the consensus here so far that I need a properly built motor from a reputable builder? I DO NOT want to put another motor in this. Paying labor to do this twice would be a huge waste of $.

What if I bought a built forged short block and had my stock heads redone and reassembled the engine with new timing parts and billet oil pump gears and anything else that isn't easy to get to once in the truck. What's everyone think of that route?

That sounds totally reasonable. If you get the short block from Livernois I bet they can work with you on what you want the final thing to look like, that way you won’t be doing things twice. They can handle the
billet gears and all that right out of the gate.

If the truck was stock i would definitely go that route, but i'm talking about boosted, making 600 rwhp ... reliably!! I will not be driving it like an *******, but i do want to use that power from time to time.

The warranty from a dealer on a crate engine doesn't entice me that much. I feel like because its boosted/modified ,they would tell me to get lost if i blew the motor. I know they would find a way around it.

MTF, I totally understand that, but if the parts are not actually designed by the factory to support that much power, then you are still dealing with a time bomb. I'm going to drive this truck a long time and want it to LAST! That also being said, do you feel that a company like Livernois has inferior build quality to Ford (I've heard Caterpillar reman's all of ford's engines..... any truth to that?)? I would think that they could do a better more tedious job fitting and clearancing everything, way more than a large re-manufacturer. I sure would hope so because of the price!!!!

If the truck was stock, This would probably be the route, but I think for the durability i'm looking for, I want a custom built bottom end. According to JDM and Livernois, a built short block (forged pistons, rods, stock crank, and billet oil pump gears) rebuilt with all stock components will EASILY handle 600RWHP for 250K miles. They both said there is no need to modify the heads or any other components. To me, a 600RWHP daily driver is plenty and will fun for a long time!

If anyone disagrees with this route, please let me know why.

Next question... rebuild the heads or buy new completes?.... can get them from TascaParts.com new for about $1300 + Shipping.
