Sounds like the dealer either didn't tighten the filter or maybe had a damaged gasket. Regardless chalk it up to cranial ****** inversion at the dealership service dept.

It was the dealer, they didn’t tighten the oil filter double gasket down. They fully admitted it, the oil was completely empty in the truck. I’ve never seen incompetence like this at any dealer before. I’ve also had a negative experience at another local ford dealer with my truck.

The service quality at the two ford dealers I’ve been to so far is ridiculous. How does this stuff happen on a routine oil change.

She picked it up from the dealer today and Is now saying the truck is surging while she is driving it

I think they should give her a new truck or at minimum a free extended warranty

Any thoughts?

If it really did run dry on oil there is no way that there is not bearing damage in the motor. It will likely be a long road but my feeling is that they owe you a replacement motor (short block or possibly long block) and an extended warranty. Not likely they will do a new truck.

Go for the extended warranty, but trade for the 20 coming out with the 5.2 SC.

ignore the troll formerly registered here under several different user names, most notably sasquatch77. She doesn’t even have a truck, much less a Raptor.

I would immediately engage Ford C/S and the service manager, return the truck to the dealer and tell them to tear it down and inspect the motor for bearing damage and any other component damage .

Don’t waiver, just tell them to do it. They can’t just add oil back to an engine that just ran out and expect it to work.

Agree with Smurfslayer but don’t think I’d trust a dealer that can’t do a proper oil change to break down my engine! I’d call ford and demand it be done elsewhere.

I should have probably clarified a little more. Dealers warranty their workmanship so in addition to the factory warranty, the dealer has an obligation to not just dump some oil into an engine run dry and then say “ok, you’re golden”. While it’s definitely poor workmanship here, imagine if it was something worse like lug nuts that weren’t torqued? That could get you seriously injured, this was fortunately only a mechanical risk. Still, by going back to the original dealer, it can help reduce the likelihood of ‘well it’s not a warranty issue or concern’. in that case, so what?

anyway, I’d politely, but rather insistently get Ford C/S involved and ensure the service manager understood my perfectly reasonable expectations that the engine be inspected for damage, and replaced / rebuilt as required, and I would want pictures or visible inspection myself.

Surging is an issue they will have to fix, 1 way or another. I would insist on an extended warranty, with free oil changes for life. :)

And remember to keep your own attitude in check( which is hard when you spend good money for shit services). I've had issues and got the GM involved and everything was taken care of to my satisfaction.

Good luck

I would want their admission of guilt in writing or if it's in a public area of the dealership and not their office (ie no expectation of privacy), record a conversation stating what happened (double check your state's privacy laws)

I wouldn't want them tearing my motor down and trying to re-assemble it. I would bring it in at the next oil change interval and have an oil sample sent off to blackstone or someone similar for analysis and go from there.
