Hey guys. i'm new to the forum. I have a 2018 raptor with 11k miles on it. Whenever I first shift from park to drive the truck clunks and jerks forward. Not when I go to reverse. Just when I first engage drive. Otherwise it seems to shift fine. Anyone know what this could be? I just bought the truck the other day pre-owned from another state from a toyota dealership. Don't know how they didn't catch that. I plan on taking it to ford since i'm still under warranty.

Mine does it sometimes when I am still rolling backwards a little. I have to be mindful to come to a complete stop before going to drive. There is a service bulletin for transmission reflash. I had it done, it shifts way better now, but I notice the clunk more now for whatever reason, if not completely stopped.l

my wifes 18 mustang with the 10spd does the same shit. Sometimes it'll bang into drive so hard the car jumps forward, sometimes it doesnt actually go into D for a couple seconds.

Wow, opening up my search from “raptor” to “10r80” or “mustang” brought back a ton more results. I see the valve body cover talked about pretty frequently.

I have a 17' and started having this same issue about a week ago. Hard clunk when shift into drive, no challenge in reverse. Dealer said it would be a week before they can even look at it due to focus and fiesta recalls or something to that extent. (Will not use Peoria Ford) Going to Lincoln service next.

Please report back to us what they diagnose it as.

More than likely they will reset the adaptive learning strategy and send you on your way. This fixes it for about 1,000 miles before it returns.

I still can’t figure out if it’s a mechanical problem or a software problem. The pcm reset takes it entirely away though for a period of time... which is confusing. I can’t wrap my head around what would cause it to return.

This was referred to as "the clunk" in first gen and was experienced in f150's with the same transmission. The conversation went all over the place and nothing was ever actually done about it. My warranty replaced transmission control module, ujoint, and reflashed. I've even heard of axle replacement. .. no fix. I was told some Ford engineers said it was normal and would not cause any problems and I would get used to it. Not sure if that's true but it still exists and has caused no issues and really I barely ever notice it anymore.

We are probably talking about something else, then. There is no way anyone could get “used” to this... way way way too harsh to just forget about.

Any time I’m driving someone for the first time, they immediately snap “wtf was that?!”

I’m seeing this pretty commonly in ford gt and mustang forums. Anything performance Ford with the 10sp.

At its worst, the lurch overcomes the braking force and sends me an inch or two forward.

Yeah I hear you. I considered getting a different truck completely. What you're describing is what I've felt and there was a big deal about it around 2014. I guess it could be something different but it sounds identical to me. I was pretty floored about the situation but it does tend to turn into this mindset that your truck just wants to go pretty bad. My uncles firebird would roll tires at red lights when you took your foot off the brake, I thought that was probably a bad thing but I didnt have to replace the tires so its whatever. Anyways good luck.
