Looking into tonneau covers and dont plan on having it on full time. So looking at vinyl tonneau covers. Has anyone ever had one slashed or cut = broken into and stuff stolen out of one? Dont want to spend 6-1200 on hard cover if not necessary.
thanks

I've owned 5 trucks and used the same model Extang Classic Platinum on all of them and never had anything happen. You never know what can happen, no matter what you have. A co worker's Husband had one of those custom painted fiberglass covers on his Dakota R/T and it got stolen right out of the driveway in a really nice area of town. The cover was locked.

If they want in they are getting in no matter what cover you have. I went with an Undercover hard cover. Ran them on three previous trucks and they work very well. Weighs less than 50lbs so removal is a matter of loosening two knobs and hang it on the wall of the garage.

I have a truxedo "truxport" nice quality rolling vinyl cover that dealer threw in as part of my deal on the truck. I have always preferred "hard" tri-folding ones for the very reason of more theft protection. If you have to replace a damaged one & would like to add more protection w/ same look & have easy removal the hands down best bang for buck tonneau I've used (and is completely water tight) Is the Advantage Hardhat tri-fold https://www.autoanything.com/tonnea...dv7rS0VZK60coj3QZnTWqLPsWu4eWcbQaArxdEALw_wcB

Can probably find cheaper if you shop around. It sits on top of the beds own rails doesn't require any additional "inside" rails to be installed, it was 100% waterproof for me on my GMC, there are only 4 "locking points" 2 @ the rear corners that are "fixed" crew twists that clamp onto the trucks bed sides (ABS plastic don't damage anything) & clamping handles @ tailgate corners that can be clamped down real tight (especially in warmer weather) when coupled w/ locking tailgate makes it very tough to get access to the bed w/o drawing a lot of attention. I had one on an older truck that was totaled in a wreck where the tailgate was jammed wouldn't unlock & I had to take a crowbar & break/pry the cover off pretty dang violently. Cutting through from the top would require a sawzall or @ least a heavy duty drywall saw or something. Each panel has a hard 1/8" thick piece of plastic & the frame is strong AL extrusion. You can put a tool box w/ 50 lbs of crap in it & lay it on top of the tonneau w/o it sagging for instance.

Lastly - has the sleek look of a folding soft vinyl tonneau but has way way less of the "flapping" sound when driving down hwy w/ rear slider open.

Wish I had it on my new Raptor if you can't tell lol

I had the soft trifold factory cover - a ford branded extang - on my gen1 for years with no incidents.
