Has anyone done or tried to make a chase or tire rack removable? I am torn between keeping the bed open and doing a chase rack or tire rack, and doing a Retrax Pro XR. I want to be able to lock my bed, and be able to travel with my bikes and snowboards etc. However, I full in tend to get off road as often as possible, but want the ability to bring all the necessary gear for a full day of driving. In a perfect world.... I would still do a Retrax Pro XR, and then get either a full chase rack or ADD Universal Tire Carriers mounted to the bed, but some how be able to bolt them in and out when needed. As anyone tried something like this?

Here's a chase rack/tire rack/recovery rack "what ever you wanna call it" rack fabbed up by Miller Offroad Design. Fits underneath a Bakflip, which is a little different than the Retrax, but same concept. Having a rack that fits underneath a bed cover would be much easier than removing one every time you decide to use the bed cover. I'm sure they could fab up a similar rack that would work for the Retrax.

+1. Nice rack. ( I mean that in a good way ). The only downside I see to that rack is it wouldn’t fit my wife’s suitcases where the tires ought to go for vacations, trips and such. I tell you, that woman did not inherit the ability to pack light and definitely hasn’t learned it. We were on a trip by bike a few years back and her buying got out of hand and when we went to push off we had too much for the bags - big KTM. I figured it would happen and we ended up strapping stuff on top of the top case and then put another set of tie downs on top of the first set.

next stop was Edingburgh, so we had the ship stuff across the pond to continue the trip.

That rack is not mine; that photo is from their instagram feed. Wouldn't mind one though. I have been eyeing something like that, because I too would like to be able to run a bed cover at times. Especially when the wife's luggage won't entirely fit in the back seat. I feel you @smurfslayer ... But to answer your question @bruiser, that rack will run you $1300 coated. Not sure about shipping though...
