As some of you may know I want to purchase a 2019 Raptor. I live in NEW York and found a local dealer which has a Raptor coming in exactly the way I would order one. I resigned myself to wait the 6-8 weeks before it's at the dealer. Upon further researching the 2019 Raptor on YouTube, I came across an advertisement from Lasco Ford in Fenton, MI, which caught my eye... "2019 Raptors-Below MSRP."
I figured, what the heck, it can't hurt to see if I can get my Raptor sooner, and below MSRP!
For seven minutes I listened to Matt Lasco tout his dealership, how many Raptors they have in stock, and how many more were on their way. I went on their site and actually found 2 available 2019 Raptors I liked. I tried to put my vehicle in on their site to find out what my trade was worth but it kept kicking back every time I put my mileage in. I sent them a couple of emails Friday night expressing my interest in the Raptors. By Saturday morning I had received three standard emails thanking me for my interest and telling me someone would call. After not receiving a call back I called and left a message for someone to call me. I also sent pictures of my trade to the internet manager explaining the issues I had trying to get a trade price on my vehicle on line. It wasn't until Monday morning at 9:30 that I received a call from a Lasco Ford representative asking me what Raptor I was interested in. After explaining what I wanted I was told that the vehicle was available and asking if I had a trade. I said I did and already sent pictures. I was told that they were unaware I sent pics but would check with the internet manager. I explained I was in New York and if the numbers worked, I would have the new Raptor shipped to me and my trade shipped to them. I was told that shipping may be cost prohibitive, but I said I would make the final determination based on msrp and how quick I can get my Raptor. All seemed like it may work, and we hung up with my hopes high and a request to send my trades VIN. After about five minutes the rep from Lasco Ford called me and told me that they could not ship new Raptors to a couple of states, New York being one of them!! WHAT?? I never heard of anything like this! I asked the rep WHY, if in fact this was true, not at least tell me up front, or put a disclaimer in their ads or on their site? I asked the rep this question, and was told "I'll tell my boss" and the phone was hung up in my face!
Obviously, in the scheme of life, this may not be that important, but I just wanted to warn my fellow Raptor buyers to beware of some of these false dealer come ons! At the very least it was a very sobering and negative experience from a dealer that proports to be one of the best Raptor dealers in the country. Good luck all!

Nearly all of NY is less than a ten hour drive from Fenton. When you found out shipping wasn't an option, did you even consider driving there to drop off your trade in and driving back? Selling your truck locally then flying in and driving back? Or did you just start yelling over the phone at the sales guy...

Sounds like they told you something you didn't like (that they don't ship to your state - which they have zero obligation to do) and you starting angrily ranting about it so they hung up on you. Do you have a real reason to badmouth this dealer?

Lots of crappy dealerships out there, but there are also lots of red flags in your post.


Did you really think they would take a trade-in sight unseen and based on your pictures alone and also incur the expense of shipping it? That does not happen in real life.

Thank you for your response to my thread. I appreciate your answer but I feel that you misunderstood a few parts of it. Due to family as well as work obligations driving out to Fenton with my vehicle was not an option for me. I decided to tax the tax credit from a dealer so selling the vehicle locally then flying out also wasn't an option for me. I'm sorry you were able to infer from what I wrote that I "yelled" at the sales rep. I did not yell, I don't need to yell to make a point. I merely stated that there should be something in their advertisements about which states shouldn't bother inquiring about vehicles because they are not able to sell to those states. My intention is not to badmouthing this dealer or any other. I thought the purpose of this Forum was to relay experiences we have in order to help our fellow members. Maybe I was wrong, and we just have to keep our mouths shut if we feel something we went through might help someone else.

Also, giving a trade in value on a car site unseen is very risky for the dealer. They have no idea what shape you car is in until they do the inspection. You would pay $500 to ship a car out there, have them low ball you, then have to ship the car back for another $500.

Find a dealer who has inventory, and no mark up, and drive to them. There is o other option.

I negotiated my trade with my purchasing stealership, cost, put down the deposit, all without setting foot in the stealership. Most of it done over SMS text :) Of course, the trade was a good faith estimate; pictures were accurate, no obvious problems. It all went smoothly.

I believe that there are some issues with various states’ respective safety inspection and emissions inspection rules and even though the Rap is 50 state compliant, NY may have some oddball requirements.

also, I don’t think shipping vehicles and receiving trades by shipment is a common thing. it could just be dealer laziness or that part made it less profitable.

anyway, you had a dealer experience that didn’t meet your expectation. drop them a line on their contact us medium. Don’t fire bomb them on social media or in public venue, just tell them they didn’t meet your expectations.

I agree.....my trade for my wifes Ex Sport was sight unseen, but i knew when i finally brought the car in, there was a chance they could say......no way, $1k less or no deal.

I just would not want to chance that after going through the hassle of shipping car.

I really appreciate all the responses and some have made me see some things in a different light. That being said, I guess what I was trying to convey was that IMO, I felt some type of disclaimer in their ads indicating the states they could not ship to, would have been helpful. As far as the actual dealership goes, they may in fact me a very reputable dealership with some very good intentions. Maybe my expectations were too high. I'm not too proud to say I could have jumped the gun a little with my post. Thanks all for helping me see it a little differently.

Certainly the Raptor searches can be frustrating with dealerships, but part of the fun is the "thrill of the chase". Best of luck and hope you'll be in a Raptor soon!
