my 2018 (oct build) 7,*** miles now has a tick on cold start up where the truck has been sitting for 3-4 days. Goes away in 3-5 seconds. The noise wont come back unless the truck sits for 3-4 days again.

I think I am safe as this seems normal. The oil has just all drained back into the pan.

I will note some f150 owners have run for 30k-100k miles with phaser noise without any other issue. It really begins to be a problem when it causes timing problems.

You wouldn’t know mine was causing problems unless you turned Advanced Trac off and nailed it for a few gears. You had to be making good boost in order for the timing to rear it’s ugky head.

Mine was rattling every other start up, now it just has a tiny little tick. I know it will come back, but when? My last truck did it and stoped, but then waited 40k miles before it really started acting up...

Was your last truck an eco-boost?

Didn't get anywhere with the dealer so I'm opening a case with Ford. Dealer acknowledged the tick but claims it's normal. (Its clearly not)

Ya it was a ‘12 eco boost. I traded in an FX4 lemon for a shinny new raptor lemon. What a deal...

I will have to do the same thing. The dealer knows I have failing cam phasers as they are pretty loud now. They won't do anything until it lets go. I think this helps protect against lemon law'ing it. Ford must be instructing service departments to do this now so that they don't have to buy them all back.

You may be on to something. My biz partners '13 King Ranch had it for at least 3 years that I know of, didn't seem to hurt anything. Noting ever let go though.
