At the Automatic shifter are the indicators (P R N D ) suppose illuminate when you turn on your lights? I find it odd that mine do not.

It seems that Ford decided to do away with the illumination sometime in the 2018 production year. There are one or two discussion on it somewhere. I would like to revisit those posts and see if I can get the old parts to illuminate that indicator.

Late 2018s do not have the illuminated console. Mine doesn't. Not a big deal to me.

You will have to change the console, not just add a light underneath. The console lettering on mine is not translucent,

I would just try this part and see if the lettering is translucent. The paint/ink may be opaque, but could still be able to pass a backlight.

Are you talking about the indicators next to the shifter (in the center console)? Or the indicators in the dashboard.

If it's the former, on my 2016 F150 XLT they're just for aesthetics. But the dashboard definitely indicates transmission state.

There is an indicator in the dash. No problem there. It is the lettering next to the shifter. The letters, on my 18, are not translucent. Therefore all the light in the world will not shine through it.

Here's what the shifter lights in the console look like on my 2017 at night with headlights on:20190117_212022.jpg
Then with Headlights off:
