...I wouldn’t have gone with one of the other tuners anyways, if Cobb hadn’t released a tune I’d still be stock. That’s just me though. Not trying to say I’m right or that everybody who used a different tuner is wrong, just for my investment in the truck and my preferences and comfort, I trust Cobb enough to go with them...

This is exactly my mindset. I had zero intention of tuning my Raptor until I saw COBB was getting involved. There’s a quote that says something about buying the company first, then buying their products. I had bought into COBB and how they run their business years ago. COBB doesn’t rush their product so they can be first to market. When you get something from them, you know it’s been tested to a high standard. There were posts just a few days ago saying how much better Whipple is than COBB, then today I see posts on the FB Raptor page with people saying they can’t get any support from Whipple and can’t even get their trucks tuned back to stock. I’m not concerned about COBB’s support disappearing in a few months.

Everyone has the right to spend their money on their truck however they want. But for my money it’s an easy decision.

Not sure if you guys have seen this info I dug up on Cobb's Raptor Notes off their website:

    • Boost: Dynamic based upon atmospheric conditions, fuel quality, gear, rpm, and drivetrain.
      • Up to ~17psi tapering to ~14psi by redline.
  • Stage1 91
    • Fuel Requirements: 91+ Octane (RON+MON/2) (95+ RON) fuel minimum
    • Boost: Dynamic based upon atmospheric conditions, fuel quality, gear, rpm, and drivetrain.
      • Up to ~22psi tapering to ~15psi by redline.
  • Stage1 93
    • Fuel Requirements: 93+ Octane (RON+MON/2) (98+ RON) fuel minimum

This is exactly my mindset, and why the TCM tune isn’t a factor in my decision.

So I've lurked for a long time without making an account, but I feel the need to put in my 2 cents. COBB will not always lead the various tuners for hp/tq gains in off the shelf maps, but they are consistently the most reliable. I watched this entire process (community discussion, whatever you want to call it) play out in the Subaru tuning world (I still have my 04 STi), and where things stand, of the few Subaru ECU tuning options still available, COBB has the vast majority of market share. Other tuners and tuning solutions pushed things much harder earlier on and pulled in big numbers, but all of them pretty much fell to reliability, drivablity and usability issues. The Cobb maps consistently iterate and improve as they perfect new engine platforms and their holistic approach to upgrade paths doesn't leave performance imbalances. I'll look forward to when they have TCM tunes available, but given my Raptor currently is in the shop getting TSB-10R80 fixed, it seems like Ford is still perfecting their tune. My only regret is putting of my warranty work so Sik Jumps didn't beat me to the first install ;)

Also gonna leave everyone with this gem I dug up Cobb's wiki while prepping for my install:

Confirms how good the 93PRX MPT tune is with TCM and Sport mode as well as 91 towing tune.

Happy there’s competition and Cobb obviously has a big fan base.

So this Cobb is said to be conservative but the numbers posted show 93 octane to be on par with MPT and 5* numbers. I have never seen mine put out 22 lbs of boost.

Boost is one variable. Air fuel ratio, timing advance, torque converter lockup... etc. etc... all affect the tunes.

I think Cobb has a very nice dyno curve shape. It’s very smooth, refined, usable power and they spent a lot of hours fine tuning that curve. There really isn’t any notice power surges or dips.

That being said.... 5 Star.... not in the same league as MPT or the rest.
