Hey everyone,

I made this looking for everyone's thoughts. I've been driving an old 05 grand cherokee for awhile now and I recently got a better job and have decided to upgrade. I've wanted a Raptor for a long time, and I enjoy off road and want something that is capable there. I've been looking at the 1st generation Raptors as the 2nd are still way out of my price range.

I was wondering for those that have had them for a long period of time, how has reliability been? Most of the ones in my area have 85,000 miles on them, and a lot of them have 100k - 120k. I don't mind having to fix small things here and there but I also don't want to be fixing something on it every other day.

Thanks!

I just traded in my 2014 with 80k on it...I know it is on the lower end of the range of miles that you are thinking about but if you can find one that was somebody's daily driver vs getting beat from driving offroad a lot, your engine should be good for a long time...My shocks and springs were totally done on mine and I live in the NE and had some rust in spots...I absolutely loved my 2014 and still think that motor is better than the new one...Only reason I got rid of mine is I was at that tipping point of sinking a bunch of money to replace some stuff vs getting a great offer on my truck from the dealer, and also getting a relatively good deal on an 18 led foot. good luck in your search. all raptors are awesome...

I would say the reliability is similar to any Ford truck assuming the Raptor has not seen a lot of off-road use. My brother-in-law just informed me that he has 280K on his F-150 with no major repairs, but he lives in the country and just uses his truck for transportation (not a farm vehicle).

I should point out the other truck I’ve been considering is a Tundra. I’d prefer the Raptor, it’s better looking, it’s more capable for what I want/need, it’s just a nicer truck. But I also need something reliable.

I don’t really expect most American trucks to match Toyota, but if it comes close then that’s good enough.

I probably won’t be going off road more than once every few months at most. Currently I’m just too busy to do it as often as I’d like. And even then it will probably mostly be relatively mild mountain trails or quick camping trips (Moab in the summer once or twice as wel).

FWIW, the Toyota is not bomb proof.,. The starter is a known problem, and it is located under the intake manifold, requiring fairly major repairs for what should be a pretty easy repair. All makes and models have quirks. The Raptor is no different, but I'd say pretty rock solid overall. More so than pretty much anything else, tundra included.
