Sorry to be the pessimist but I can't see those towers standing straight after a day of serious wheeling. How are the tension rods going to work? Do you really need all 4 totes? 2 would be perfect.

I am looking at the BajaMod bed stabilisers as well. It is great they are easily removable but the fact that they connect to the bed floor a little further out than most and the cross member is only sheet metal worries me. I am really interested to hear back on how they do.

the bottom 2 have been in when going hard with bins ratchet strapped on top. The upper bins are not heavy, the lowers ones are where the weight is. They'll hold up. I may need to relocate the rotopax, but we'll see.

Yeah, the fluids on top are what looks vulnerable. If you are ratcheting down you should be fine but if you are using the swag mounts alone I think you'll have issues as I believe they only support front and back, not side to side. Some custom tension bars on the sides might work but IMO the setup would look a whole lot sweeter with the fluids elsewhere in the bed.

Thanks! I'm really looking forward to having her "finished" and spending 90% of the time having fun in it ( instead of spending 90% of the time building it, or waiting patiently for parts. )

They have side to side supports as well, but they still "wiggle" a little, but so do the bedsides and even the bed rails. For the most part, the bed isn't designed to be 100% rigid. I am hard pressed to think that the bins or mounts would break/tear based on the weight of the bins, especially since they are secured with 8 grade 8 1/4-20 bolts with 2" fender washers on each bolt per swag mount, but i'm still doing the tension rod and straps for extra security.

I don't have a whole lot of leftover room, so mounting locations for the roto-pax are limited. I'd going to sit and think more after I get the pro eagle mounted in an upright position. ( have to modify the bypass rack to do it though.) I've been holding off until the black steelit started shipping before I started welding to it.

The bins end up being approx 1/4" from the bed rail. The game plan is to strap them down and add 2 tension rods to tie the two stacks together side to side.

With 1 bin on each side in the swag mounts with all of my heavy stuff in it, no bending, tearing or cracking of the mounts when airing the truck out a few times.

Just trying to make sure that I have as many of the make-shift missles outside the truck as possible, instead of inside it.


In other news, I dropped my truck off to get wrapped today. It is doubtful that I'll have it back by christmas, so my grand plan of squeezing a desert trip in has evaporated. c'est la vie.

Here's a few pics that TMX took of my truck right after it was finished ( for that stage). Truck is getting wrapped now. Once the wrap is done, I'll finish out the odds and ends.

Truck is mean as hell man!!! Did you weld the mounts for the duallys on the bumper? I have an SVC bumper on the way and would like to utilize the duallys I have.

actually, I used 6" of aluminized angle steel with holes in it from home depot. Drilled one hole in a mounting tab and bolted them to the body.

I did weld tabs for the XLs and the 30" bar though.


Good news today! Someone bailed on the February EXO run to Baja, so I was able to jump in. I'm psyched!
