GEN 2 Baja Designs S2 back up lights install

Forgot to say thanks to Halogrinder for the write-up.

Nice write up , I been sitting on my set for a few weeks. The instructions suck at best but your write is superb! Thanks for the help

For those who have asked, here is a shot of my backup camera showing the illumination the S2s provide. I didn't think to grab a pic of the stock, but may do that at some point to show the difference. In this pic, you can see about 3-4 feet of my driveway, the two lane black top road and into the trees across the street. If you look closely, you can see the stock backup lights between the red tail lights, about half way across the street. It isn't pitch black, but pretty close. The S2s in wide/cornering project very well thankfully. In fact, I'd say they project out much farther than they spread and they certainly don't wash out the camera. For back up lights, they really fit the bill for me. For dust or chase lights, I have no idea but if not, the pros I'm sure would suffice.

Does everyone hook up the S2 back up lights to the reverse lights? Or do some of you use the uplifter switches? I’m just not sure in the parking lot or what have you that I would want to throw that much light out the back unless needed. Thoughts?

I wired mine to the reverse lights. It’s not that much light. Don’t get me wrong it’s worth it and very helpful but I wouldn’t call it blinding or obtrusive to other drivers.

With a relay you can use 2 uplifter switches. 1 for reverse and 1 for on. Wire light to common terminal of relay. One switch to nc. One switch to no. Reverse is the signal connection. 5 pin relay with internal diode

Mounted mine the same as Halo, I plan to run the power to upfitter switch so I don’t blind people in parking lots, (maybe so I can use them when some **** is drafting with his high beams on I can use them) I also don’t need these coming on in Alaska in the summer time, it never gets dark.

Can I buy the custom harness by it self? Already have the lights.

I connected my BD S2’s into the reverse light trailer harness wire like the OP (Halo) illustrated.

I prefer my BD S2’s to come on every time I put it in reverse.

In addition, I want the ability to turn on my rear S2’s via one of the available upfitter switches in the center roof console in the cab.

Dewalt posted doing this using 2 of the upfitter switches. However, I don’t want to use two switches to accomplish this. And, I’m already using 5 of the upfitter switches for BD fogs and spots on my front Rogue Racing Enforcer Frame Horn Chop front bumper.

Has anyone done this that can share how to do it?
