After doing an oil change Saturday I noticed a odd leak behind the front differential. I did not think much of it until I placed the truck today under 4A, 4H and noticed a light metal to metal vibration noise (like to plates vibrating or bumping into each other). The noise is fairly faint but more noticeable under acceleration.

If I had my radio I am more than sure I would have not heard it. Everything feels smooths if going from 2 wheel drive to 4x4.

The truck has 12k miles and extremely well maintained.

Mine and another that I've ridden in have a very slight noise when running in 4A. Unsure if it's the same as yours, but I think the noise I hear is to be expected.

Is it consistent under acceleration?

The noise mine makes is pretty quiet, but more noticeable when I give it power, and it's always there when I give it power; I never run with the radio on so I hear it. I'll try running in 4A tomorrow to see if I can describe it better. My guess is my noise is a normal noise.

I've never noticed any noise from the front diff and I am in 4wd often so I am not sure about this 'normal' noise but the leak is definitely not normal. Pinion seal went bad most likely. Go get it fixed before you lose all fluid and implode the front diff.

Listened for it this morning. The noise I hear is a very subtle pinging noise, shows up under power, not present otherwise, not present in 2H. Not easy to hear it, most won't notice it. Unsure if mine comes from the diff or somewhere else.

I agree with Frank WRT getting it checked out.

Yea, I am going to see which local dealer I can take it to. This morning I was able to get a video of it but not sure how to upload a video on here.

Just a shit in the dark to keep in mind, (not sure if it applies to gen 2) gen 1 used vacuums to activate and deactivate 4wd. My vacuum seal was compromised when I got my truck and in 2wd I heard a noise only when under slight acceleration. It sounded like metal scraping and eventually got loud enough to where it sounded like screws in a can shaking hard. If it is only coming from one front tire could be a similar issue. Try to better locate the noise that could help identify possibilities, good luck my man.

Well I ended up dropping it off at the dealer this morning. The front transfer case pinion is leaking. I took photos and showed them when I dropped it off this morning. Hopefully I hear something soon but the shop is 2-3 weeks behind.

Now on the edge if I should still get the whipple kit.

Issue ended up being a front pinion seal. Monitoring for the time being.
