1,000 miles after UPR Catch Can

Just Service my UPR catch can after one thousand miles. Oil capture was minimal. I drained from the bottom valve and did not open the entire catch can. I’m sure there might have been another few drops in there but nothing substantial. Overall I would estimate about half an ounce to three fourths an ounce of oil captured. I definitely think it’s worth it and the service only took about 10 minutes.

My gf is not going to be happy about her plastic Starbucks cup but to me that’s all they are good for anyways!!! ;)

To me that is a lot of oil in only a thousand miles on a new truck. Over time, and as the engine wears more, this will increase (and accumulate gunk). A catch can is cheap insurance.

Check the stats on the long term test Raptor one of the magazines just wrapped up. Performance dropped off significantly while they owned the truck. There has to be a reason for that.

My Ford tech who is an experienced “Master Tech” tells me that the catch can is as good as “Snake Oil”... if engine is serviced minimum as per the owners manual or at 5k-7k intervals, you should not have a problem.. and I know it for a fact!! He serviced my 2011 Gen1 which I traded for my Gen2 with 125,000 miles and that 6.2L was like brand new, perfect idle and perfect everything... no need for no catch can scam!!

After spending the money I did on my build I have no problem spending a few hundred dollars and taking an extra 10 minutes when conducting an oil change to drain the catch can. I’d rather have that oil caught than anywhere else. My 2013 3.5eb f150 ran amazing at 100k miles but I’m sure the engine wasn’t spotless of buildup.

Uhhboy.....(every readerboard i have ever been on wont let this rest here).....let the game begin.

After this, lets discuss the finer points of CAI, Wheel Spacers, and spark plug wires.

I have a catch can and while it collects some oil, it's not as much as I would have thought.

I also did the VTA mod for the BOV when I put in the relocated intercooler. The BOV now points directly down to the front skid plate and there is a decent amount of oil residue on the top side of the skidplate where the BOV is aiming. I'm thinking that some of the oil that would have been collected in the catch can is vented through the BOV.
