Auto stop start and turbos

I let all my trucks I've owned a cool down period when say getting off the freeway and straight to the gas station...I turn off the A/C and then all the temps stabilize a bit before shutting down....

Thanks for the input, the video was good. As I suspected the whole auto stop start thing was to make someone feel real good about themselves without really doing much. If I'm able I will dis able this feature when I get my new truck. I appreciate this site , lots of good info thanks again

The days of idling your turbo vehicle was around the same time automatic transmissions were largly limited to 4 ratios. Things change.

My BMW did the auto-stop thing. I was concerned because I thought he oil dripped off the valve-train while the pump was not moving, and that after starting you should wait at least a few seconds for pressure to build before putting in gear. So the quick start followed by worst-possible-case ACCELERATION would cause premature wear of the upper end.

I was told "do not worry, the Prius has tested this tech for over 15 years, and there are no problems".

Well I feel better now, it is safe for a low compression low performance engine driven by metrosexual professors and little old ladies, therefore it MUST be safe for 150mph coupes and ~450HP 6K pound beasts...suuuuure.

SCURRILOUS accusations. Little old ladies would never stoop so low as to drive a prius.

Your engines bearings are flat / smooth faced and require a PRERESSURIED film of oil to keep parts from digging into each other (Metal on Metal). Low or no oil pressure is generally frowned a pawn last I heard. Stomping on the gas from a start off position with a 6K lb. truck (Empty) with no pressure built up can't be good. Could have something to do with Ford disabling the feature in tow haul mode. Maybe I'm old fashion but I have been messin / building engines since high school and I don't trust it. I like cool runnin high oil pressure motors. Dis-able it in Forscan & forget about it! I did. Plus in hot climates AC doesn't suck as bad! IMO.

Lots of "I'm not an automotive engineer, but let me tell you why Ford's automotive engineers are wrong" in this thread.

If I didn't believe Ford's engineers knew what they were doing, I most definitely wouldn't have spent $70k on a Ford product.

Disable stop-start because it is annoying and cuts off the A/C, but it doesn't harm the engine any more than letting it idle.

You think all the lube drains back into the oil pan for the few seconds the vehicle is turned off at a stop light? I assure you it doesn't.

Disabling start/stop in tow haul mode likely has much more to do with not having your power assisted brakes be unavailable when you're potentially holding 8000lbs of additional weight on a hill.

On the other hand, if Ford's engineer's didn't have to squeeze every last MPG out of it, but instead were instructed to squeeze every possible mile of longevity out of the engine, do you think it would have stop/start in that case? I don't.
