2017 with 27k miles currently. Oilpan leak around 15k miles, new engine at 23k miles. Rod bearing #4 spun in the engine causing crank and rod damage...necessitated new short block. Oil was changed every 3k and never abused, just a design/manufacturing defect.

Dealer admitted it wasn't his first ecoboost engine with that same issue :Stupid Me:

so 1 in 5 odds your brand new 70k truck will have engine or tranny problems..... we arent even talking high milaged trucks. just my personal opinion i stay far away from the poopoo boost.

Buddy has 190,000 mikes on his eb. Still loves it.

And it won't be the last...of course there are literally millions of EB motors out there.

I have a 2017 with 35,800 miles already and it is currently sitting at ford also awaiting a new short block. Started as an engine rattle occasionally on startup, but didn't happen every startup. I was monitoring the issue and less than a week later before I could get it into the dealership I heard the same rattle/noise at highway speeds & immediately took it in the next morning when they opened. It wasn't the wastegate rattle others have experienced and also wasn't the camphaser issue people have been experiencing. My truck is still at Ford and I'll hopefully get it back sometime next week. Also hoping to get a clearer picture from the mechanic of what actually led up to this and/or caused this. From a maintenance standpoint I have babied my truck, however it does get used for its intended purposes and frequently leaves the pavement. Absolutely love this truck but definitely concerned to be having engine issues this early on. Getting an extended 125K/ 6-year warranty was definitely a good call!

Sorry to hear that, but at least it's all under warranty like mine was. I also got an EPP for 100k/7 years I think. The worst part about the engine replacement was waiting on the parts to arrive...it took about a month for the whole process, but only about 3 days of actual labor. Had to drive a Ford Escape in that time, I was not pleased.

I totally agree, my truck has been at Ford now for over 3 weeks and it'll be over a month by the time it's done (They just got the short block yesterday). I've been in an F-150 XLT which isn't awful but you really don't realize how good you have it until it's gone. Not complaining about a fresh motor after 35k of miles but definitely anxious to get my truck back.

Any problems thus far with the new engine? Any rattles on startup?

Sad to report back that after Ford installed the brand new short block they fired it up to get it tuned and upon doing so they shot a valve through a piston thus putting a hole in the piston and downing a brand new short block (2nd motor to go on this truck in first 35K). I am now in the Buy-Back Claim process which has been approved. I'll know more in the next week but sounds like I may be looking at a brand new 2019 Order as a replacement for my 2017 otherwise they'll give me the cash figure that they'll buy me out at.

I've put a lot of miles on this truck in the short time I've owned it and absolutely love it. I am hoping that I just got really unlucky and got a lemon off the line from the factory at Ford. In my mind that's the only thing that makes sense seen as this truck was ordered and built for me in Dearborn, MI and then freighted here. I am the only one to ever drive it and have babied it maintenance wise. I also haven't seen or heard of any similar engine issues except for this thread, so I will likely take a gamble on the 2019 and hope for the best. Ford has promised to swap any and all aftermarket parts onto my new truck for me as well which is great. Currently just under 2 months without my truck so really hoping they can expedite this order and I won't be stuck in a rental for another few months. I'll update once I find out more information.

I hope your truck troubles are over, that is just ... well, I’m really lacking a good descriptor here. it’s bad, but that really doesn’t do this situation justice.

Good luck and I hope they have you squared away soon.
