My experience tells me that the new brake light is not going to help you in the intermediate run. The gasket starts out thicker than the one you are replacing but it eventually gets crushed and looks like the old one with the same results. YMMV.

Apply some butyl tape: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001FCB4JS/?tag=fordraptorforum-20
That's the common fix. Dead easy and just $15.

- Pop the 3rd brake light off by taking out the 2 screws
- Unclip the bulbs
- Apply butyl tape on top of the factory seal
- Reinstall

Half an hour if that.

I believe the 3rd brake light they stock nowadays has a thicker gasket.
