iPod Classic Issues

This is a pretty well-documented problem, but it's actually getting worse.

There is some quirk with Sync and the larger iPods, like the Classic. Sync is continually indexing the device, and you cannot perform any meaningful search while this is going on, either through the head unit or via voice. If you use voice, it often will repeat the correct search term, but the result will be whatever artist/song is closest to where it has indexed to that point.

My main workaround was just to search for playlists, but now it's even messing that up by playing the playlist one ahead of the one voice-searched for, if it does anything at all...it's incredibly annoying. Now, to make sure it's going to play the playlist I want, I have to plug the iPod in while it's on that list.

I have seen on the F-150 forums where some folks just put their whole iTunes library on a thumb drive, but then you lose the search features like playlists, genre, etc.

It is astounding to me that Sync cannot play the most dominant personal music player in the history of the planet. My wife's 2012 Mercedes has absolutely no issues, nor did my old 2014 Tundra, nor did a 2018 VW Tiguan I rented recently. Does anyone have a better suggestion/workaround for this issue? How do you play/access your digital music collection in the Raptor?

I feel your pain. This is super annoying. The other issue is that if the iPod Classic is left plugged into the USB port, when I turn off my truck and turn it back on an error message appears saying "USB device unresponsive" or something to that effect.

Thanks for the reply...glad I'm not the only one out there with this annoyance. Mine just won't recognize the iPod sometimes, so I have to take it out, do a hard reset on the iPod, and then start again. I've put the iPod music/folders on a small thumb drive, and that works, sort of. The system won't search it. Plus, you just get the raw files, unprocessed by the iPod/EQ, so the sound varies tremendously. I'm probably going to update my iPhone this time around, and, when I do, I'm going to get one big enough to hold my music and hope that cures the problem either via Sync or CarPlay.

My 2013 Raptor had no issues. My 2018 couldn't handle it. I just put all the music on my iPhone and stream via Bluetooth.
