Hit a deer doing 60mph

Thabks - I found that thread.

What a pain. Mostly I just want the front camera and collision sensor working because I have a long 2000 mile trip coming up.

I found the wire that was snapped off from camera but since it's the plug and part of the camera body assembly, I can't get my fingers back there to figure out if it can be reconnected. frustrating.

I did a post on adding lights behind the grille about a year + ago, in the g2 lighting section which linked to some details on getting the grille out and separated, it may help.

I have to agree, that ADD bumper seems to have fared quite well considering.

Happy to see how well the truck did and that you are fine. I hit one last year traveling between 65-70 (do not know exactly but did not even tap the brakes) in my 335i, it did not do as well, and on a smaller (central Texas) deer too.

EDIT TO ADD: The deer in my incident was launched vertical, so much so that it actually went over the roof instead of through the windshield which was not even cracked.

The collision sensor is behind the driver's side faux bumper pad. That whole lower grill plastic insert unclips, just pull it straight out and you'll see the sensor behind the driver's side, good luck!

His bumper isn't the stock bumper. His sensor has likely been relocated to somewhere behind the grill.

I do see another grey plug below the camera that isn't connected, so that wiring was probably also broken off or disconnected on impact. Will have to get back there and see.

Ugh. I'm hoping to take grill apart and see what's going on back there. Will have to order some parts. I can't use cruise control and it's warning me about collision detections, and of course the shutters were all popped off.

Fun! But got lucky as a stock bumper would have been trashed or if it rolled onto hood or windshield I'd have a whole mess of problems.

Yikes. No good in a car. There's a lot of motorcycles around here too and I just can't imagine if this deer darted out in front of them vs me. I had no time to react. He was doing full speed right onto the road from behind all the trees.

Since you're gonna be doing some repair work to your truck, might be a good time to install a dash cam too!

haha right? I still remember the deer looking at me like OH SH*T!!! Would have made for great youtube

I have a damn gopro I never use, maybe I can mount that or something.

I remember driving home from the Grand Canyon and someone warning me about deer. I was so cautious driving back. I was able to stop about 10 feet from hitting 2 deer. My knuckles were white from holding the steering wheel so tight.

Nah, just get a purpose build dash cam. They aren't that expensive and you can get ones that have a camera for the rear as well. They have GPS for some added meta-data in the video files, they have accelerometers to automatically protect video files if they sense excessive G force (in cases of an accident) and some of the nicer ones will be in "standby" when the car is off to start recording if motion is detected
