Finally found another Gen 1 with low miles, exact options I want, and at a decent price.. but it has a supercharger, exhaust, and aftermarket bumpers.

I'm going to check it out tomorrow, but should I even consider it?

How reliable are these with a blower? (Engine / trans)

What about towing? I towed with my previous Gen 1, but it was basically stock.

Anything other than then normal signs of abuse I should look for?

Thanks!

I have been exclusively looking for a SC Raptor and have been researching the crap out of them.

There are “packages” by Roush and Hennessy and Shelby that put SC & exhaust on the Raptor and would fully warranty the engine and drivetrain for 3yr/36k.

SC should be fine for towing.
You will need to run higher octane fuel.
As long as the install was done by a reputable place and not too over the top (650hp+), the stock drivetrain should handle it.

Drive it around and also “get on it”. Make sure it is smooth. I have read of belts popping off or slipping. There are a lot of threads about SC on this forum. Roush and Whipple seem to be the predominant Superchargers used. Procharger is out there too.

You would have remaining 5yr/60k mile powertrain warranty.

They would have to PROVE that the SC is what caused the failure.

I took a look at the link and it looks like a nice truck and priced right for one with a SC and that low of miles. I LOVE the blue interior! On a black truck, that really sets it apart.

What is scaring you away from it?

I understand your concern.
I would say you have to look at the overall condition of the vehicle.
Of course with a SC, the owner would have “had a little fun” with it (why else have a SC?), but if the rest of the truck is in good shape the previous owner probably took care of it.

Everything I have read, the engine & drivetrain of the Raptor can handle the power of a SC. Could something happen and break? I suppose, it is a mechanical engine after all.

I just bought a SC Raptor with 70k miles because it has everything I was looking for! I had been searching since February. And it is 1000 miles away from me. That blue interior is pretty hard to find! This is the second black one with blue interior with SC that I have seen in 5 months.

The guys on the forum that have SC always comment that they wish they did it sooner!
Adding one yourself is $10-14k cost and the advantage is that you know it wasn’t abused. Finding a used truck with SC adds $2-4k and it might have been abused.... but you now have an extra $8-10k for repairs _IF_ they are needed.

That was my rationale at least. What could it hurt to test drive it?

Hey....
I just realized that is my opinion and I really -really wanted a SC. The last 15 year’s I have driven 20 year old cars. This is my one chance to get a “sports car” that can tow! I have done months of reading to feel comfortable and I missed out on 4 other SC trucks because of my research and trying to figure out if the truck was “built right”.

Some people may value reliability, extended warranties and price of mind. A Raptor is not a cheap truck at all and you need to be comfortable with your purchase.

Ask lots of questions. See if you can find out when the SC was installed (3k miles ago or 30k miles ago). What kind of SC is it? (Whipple, Roush, Procharger, Hennessey, or???). Ask if you can talk to previous owner. I did that for one. Called the dealer next day and it had been sold 2 days before! :-(
