This weekend I took my beast out to Montauk and the Hamptons, even visited Wardenclyffe Teslas old lab. She did amazing on the beaches and dunes, as well as the multimillion dollar front lawns lol. Question though what is everyone's opinion/experience on psi for sand?a820a2f2a7fa8f51c00625c9c25f65dc.jpga93b55ee5a20acda735ac183b3ef2fb5.jpg4169daa82a46dccad96276b23aa66e42.jpg47982aab4fcacb05820d156f72cbc935.jpg5a334a9c6f1ca933181063ecf0322596.jpg

Nice pics - I think I've all but forgotten what that green stuff that grows on the ground and the blue liquid is here in Arizona.

I can tell you however I air down to about 15-18 PSI in the sand. Lower is typically better in the soft stuff, but I'm paranoid I'm going to blow the bead doing donuts at anything lower. That said, I've yet to have any issues in the sand running that PSI.

I went to 30psi last weekend in Oceano Dunes. Did fine getting all the way to the back, but lower probably would have been better. Was worried about how far I'd have to go to find air once back on the pavement. Next time I'll have air with me.

18 psi is usually what I run. Truck has zero problems in any long Island sand at that psi. Last week at Smith Point.

Tough to tell in Taco's pictures but the big give away of the lower tire pressure is the lack of "trench" digging as seen in the OP.

Linehand,
Air down? You need fatter tires! Just kidding. I grew up in Montauk and have driven thousands of miles in the sand. Generally the lower the pressure the better. Keep in mind that blowing a bead in sand sucks! I usually go down to about 20 or so. In the sand momentum is everything. Gradually build up speed; gradually ease off the gas. You NEVER need to touch the brake pedal. NEVER!
I had a 1955 Dodge PowerWagon with **** Cepek 38.5 x 16.5 tires...15" wide that floated on sand at 30# in the rear and 35 on the front. I drove over sand covered outlet from a pond and promptly sank to the axles.
It's not a question of if you will get stuck; rather when will it happen...
On a side note I hope you did not drive in the dunes. HUGE fines, and the ecosystem is fragile.
You also need town stickers for most beach driving, but also state stickers for some beaches as well as county stickers for a few. The East Hampton Town Police love to give out $500.00 tickets to those not properly permited...
Contact the LIBBA...Long Island Beach Buggy Association for info.
Now as for driving on the multi million dollar lawns...Woohoooo...

Eddie

Thanks for the info, as far as the fine goes I dont really care, I'm from NJ as soon as your tire touches dirt it's a fine lol. We have next to nowhere to go off road. But the local police where I was over the weekend gave me permission to drive on the beach without a permit because they wanted to see how my truck would do haha. I drove where they allowed me to and had one of them in the passenger seat with me, really cool guys. Beautiful area. I will be doing more beach cruising down in island beach state park. So I appreciate all the info.

Cool stuff, offroading and Teslas lab...nice. All the stuff Ditch said about the sand is right. If you plan on doing it a lot you might want to buy a set of Maxtrax

Nice shots! Glad you were able to test it out on the beach.
I usually keep them at ~25psi and no issues with sugary sand and rides pretty comfortable.

Haven't made it out to the Hampton's yet but usually at Sore Thumb and Democrat Point
