How do you know if it is working? I did the usb drive and it scrolls something on top of the screen for a second and then nothing. I drove around for a while and finally gave up .... no indication anything was updating.

You need a USB Drive with a LED status indicator. If the LED is flashing then you know it is being read and it is working. If it's not flashing then something went wrong. Once the upgrade is complete, it will tell you to remove the drive and restart the truck. Mine took about 20 minutes total to complete.

SYNC 3 Nav Maps are officially out for purchase at $150, need VIN and ESN to purchase

Part Number is VJJ5Z19H449A SYNC 3 USB W/ License file NA1.16 1

That’s disheartening. a buck fifty for new maps? I can buy 2 new Garmins with lifetime maps for that.

It does have an indicator light and it was not on... I will try again... I am following the Mac directions but it seems there may be some differences

What’s the benefit of the new maps? Better detail? Baja!? I find the truck navigation to work pretty well when Waze and Apple crap out

actually personally there are few benefits I like in having oem navigation/new maps

1. if Im driving USA to canada I have one less thing to deal with having to carry garmin around or worry about leaving it out in the open when I park some place

2. If Im in my area and I go to a new place, I dont have to worry about getting lost coming home at night because when maps are outdated it takes you from a longer route and sometimes even when I know my way back I let it show me anyway to see where it wanted to take me, most often its wrong.

3. if you spent $700 on the option to add oem nav it becomes useless if the maps are outdated

4. If it was older system id say garmin is practical but now SYNC3 is up to par with garmin IMHO. plus theres no object in the view when driving.

I only have to drive 3 miles for the Sync maps to be “lost” and the road is unchanged for I think 3 years(?) let’s say 2. You wouldn’t even be able to complete Kentucky Bourbon Trail without Sync being “lost” down by Makers Mark. Now it’s not lost all the time and it does seem to navigate on par with about 2 year old Garmin units, that isn’t bad.

I still think the ‘subscription’ price is exorbitant.
I suppose the market will decide if I’m right or wrong on this point.

My 2018 already has Baja maps from the factory. When my team ran the Baja 1000 last year we had all the roads and highways all the way to la Paz.

supposedly sync 3 will allow Waze (to be released yet but "sometime" in april) so I think the upgrade will be beneficial just for that alone for a seamless integration.
