Hey guys,

I’m about 2000 mile into my Raptor and starting to think about mods. I drive like 25-30k a year, so I got a warranty to 125k. So it’s important not to void that. I know that they can pretty much void the warranty for any reason, so this is a bit of a silly question.

Overall I’m looking for little things that I can do that HOPEFULLY won’t void it. I feel like a tune is almost certainly out of the question. But what about turbo adapters, downpipes, blow off valve? Are there any real gains to be made from an aftermarket intake & cat-back?

What are you trying to improve ?

There’s 2 things to consider with mods.
1) what parts are directly affected by the mod and what downstream parts are affected?
2) does the mod negatively impact potential maintenance, repairs or other mods?

example - the day after I put dynamat on my truck doors, Ford issued a recall for the door latches. Fortunately, the mechanic knew what he was doing and most of the dynamat survived intact.

Some shops will simply not work on non-OEM parts, others are more tolerant, etc. Consider this going forward.

let’s say you swap in a reusable air filter; that one is easy, just make sure if you have maintenance done at a dealer, let them know not to replace the filter.

IMO, cat backs are a whole lot of money for a different and more noise. I haven’t seen any independent verification of power gains. A lot depends on how cool your dealer is with mods. If you don’t know, ask you mechanic. If you see a lot of modded cars/trucks there for work, chances are they’re not all panicky about non OEM parts. Tuning gets huge gains on the 3.5TT, but you need to know if your dealer is going to work with you if there’s a problem on a tuned truck or if they’re just going to go all ‘voided warranty’ on you. If you talk it out with the service manager and mech and they’re ok with warrantying -other- powertrain parts, for example if you’re tuned, then that’s about as much as you can ask for.
If you do put on a tune, and for example you fry some internals, yeah, you’re going to have to pay up. OTOH, if you put on an aftermarket intercooler and have a transfer case seal go bad... etc. they should be willing to cover stuff that isn’t affected by your mods without any interaction.

I’ve been to all kinds of shops, my current closest dealer is ok with most benign or bolt on mods, but I haven’t had the tune discussion with them.

I would keep the power train 100% stock, Its an awesome motor but I don't trust is quite yet. With that being said i would mod the things that will never need warranty or cause a warranty issue.
Suspension- giesers in the front and deavers in the back
Stereo- upgraded speakers sounf a whole lot better and def dynamiting the interior
Lighting-many options
Pedal comander-makes it feel like a tune
Bov- vent to the atmosphere, however would out to stock before bringing into tue dealer (unless your dealer is cool and realizes that can do no harm)

I am have always tuned and modded with little to no issues. Some manufacturers are better than others when it comes to the car being altered. As of now I have a swarf works hidden winch mount, ADD intercooler and warn 9.5xp I want to install but worried if the turbos crap out or something they could blame the bigger IC and remoavl of the fins or whatever ford has behind the grill.

So for now I have been sitting on an office full of boxes I may sell or keep and use. I got excited and bought all the parts and not forgot what its like having a bone stock truck with full warranty.

Thanks guys

Roush offers the ability to purchase a warranty with their tune which has very modest gains as far as torque and horsepower. Why not? Check out their site.
