Good God, I've been following this thread out of interest in the product, but the jack-assery is out of control.

Non ******* question. Do these LED bulbs generate any heat? Living in Colorado I drive through some nasty stuff sometimes, and my only worry here is icing over the headlights because they aren't melting snow and ice.

Hopefully I didn't miss that info in the ocean of BS I had to swim through. I skimmed most of it.

Dane, I just got them installed yesterday. I haven't had a chance to aim them yet even, but I'll do a review when I get some time with them. First impression is positive though. Bright, good cutoff, fans are very quiet, easy install.

@Raptizzle, can you help us, help ourselves and shut this thing down? Self control on this deal not so good apparently.

OOoooo... and you're in Alaska. Yes, I'll be quite curious to know about ice build-up (or hopefully a lack thereof). That's really my only hesitation.

Hey Dane. So they do give off heat but not as much heat as halogen bulbs naturally. LED's run cooler then halogen bulbs however they aluminum portion of the bulb does act as a heatsink.

I've never had any issues myself here in NY with icing up. If you are driving longer hours in a bad snow storm with freezing rain well you'll naturally get ice, even with halogens. We sell to a LOT of Canadians and so far none of them have complained.

So you should be okay, about as okay as one can be in an ice storm bad enough to get big accumulations on your headlights.

Thanks,
This answers my question.

Good luck with the rest of the thread!

I have just reread this thread, and remembered that I have personally experienced an instance of the reflector/light source mismatch argument. I have a 5 D-cell Brinkman flashlight (it's a big sucker) that was originally designed to use a halogen bulb. I found a manufacturer that markets an LED conversion, and bought it. The result is a very bright light pattern with a dark center. It's sort of like a halo. Lots of light, bad pattern.

No it's not automotive, but it does demonstrate that there can indeed be a mismatch between a reflector designed for a halogen bulb and an LED designed to replace it. For what it's worth.

that is a great example and i have seen several bad examples with led conversions in automobiles so i understand the doubt.
However, I purchased and installed the crystalux on post 2 and they are fantastic. I love them and am completely satisfied. In fact, I haven't seen one person who has bought them that wasn't happy.

So you do interviews with the oncoming motorists? OF COURSE nobody burning their neighbors retinas out is feeling the pain themselves... I am sure YOU love them but, that COMPLETELY misses the point and the problem with this "mod".
