Yea I also have read about this everywhere. How I fixed it? I pulled the fuse. Don’t want the kids turning it on by mistake and then a cold front hits and I’m screwed.

On each side of the window you can unplug the heating element. This will allow you to still use the heated mirrors without worry of the back window exploding. You will loose the indicator light on the console but they will still work.

I have had my truck since Dec 2014 and use my remote start religiously during the winter with rear defroster set on Auto in temp from 0 to -42 C and never had any issues. But I let the warm up for at least 10 mins. I guess I've been lucky so far. Knock on wood.

Wait wait hoooold up! I did not know the back glass defrost also works with the mirrors. (Lol that’s because I never used it, all this talking about the back shattering) if that’s the case yea I would like to disconnect the back instead of pulling the fuse. I’m gonna have to confirm this with the manual. Thank you Thank you [emoji1431]

Yup true story. I had never used mine in fear of breaking the window. I pulled the connection and confirmed last winter that the mirrors in fact still work/are ran off the same button.

One of the first things i did when i bought my truck is turn off the rear defroster during the remote start settings. I have read about the potential problems and do not feel like dealing with this bs.

-32 today no issue, knock on wood and not on the glass. What the hell that is why I have insurance. I did see a dodge today with is rear window blown out.

Happened to my 2012 Scab. Was having a smoke outside while the truck warmed up (remote start) and the rear passenger side exploded. Was maybe in the 20s, not even that cold really. Ford wouldn't cover it, had to use my insurance.

the car stereo guy i think on page one got it.

deep scratch or small crack and thats enough for the cold to put her over the edge with the temp change.
