@torrin for the win.

I was just about to post after a brief internet search.

I’ve not heard of this before, and we have surely had users who have not driven the truck for long periods. The torque news article seems to indicate the meaning of the message is that the remote connection and ‘connectivity’ services are being throttled to prevent battery loss. The article seems to be indicating a sleep period of 14 days, so if -that- is an issue, you should be able to use Ford Pass to schedule a vehicle start for a few minutes every 13 days or so if you’re not going to be driving - assuming you’re parked where you can start the truck.

there’s also this - https://my.fordremoteaccess.com/FAQs

This thread points out some possible causes-
Dead Battery - 2017 Ford Fusion V6 Sport Forum

smart key left in the vehicle, frayed iPhone charging cable plugged in (really?), and they seem to have some serious dead battery issues.

My dad had a similar issue with his Corvette. The dealer told him the computer continues to use power even when the car is off, which of coarse will drain the battery if the car is not used for a long period of time. He ended up putting a trickle charger on the car when he is not using it for a while. But I can't believe the battery would drain in less than two weeks unless is was weak to begin with.

after reading up on the fusion thread, there seemed to be a few suspected causes. One was the ACM, BCM and Sync. I think we all may be looking at this like car/truck enthusiasts, not thinking like a computer nerd.

The battery might be fine - seriously, check out the 100+ pages of fusion folks with dead batteries. Sure, it could be a bad batch of batteries, but the truck is maintaining some base computer functions beyond just keeping time. It has to maintain some presence to be reachable electronically. We have bigger batteries than the fusion anyway, but what if the processes or tasks that maintain connectivity and facilitate remote start, etc become ‘runaways’ ? They start using more and more processor resources, don’t free any of them up and just “keep spinning” until there’s no more available. IN this case, when we run out of power. The longest I’ve let my truck sit since purchase has been 7 days, repeated a few times.

It sounds like deep sleep didn’t protect you, so either deep sleep wasn’t effective, the battery was compromised or both. If you didn’t get any clues before hand - slow cranking, lights dimming when you start, it sounds like something is draining the battery as the truck sits at a higher than expected rate. if you don’t have some accessory doing this, there’s probably something going on with the onboard computers.

Thank you all for the input. Definitely seems like there is something going on that no one (Ford included) has put their finger on.

It dawned on me this morning - what I should have done yesterday when the tow truck guy was here - was have him check the status of the battery BEFORE he jumped it. If the battery was dead we would know it was the more obvious dead battery problem... Then we have to figure out why a battery in a brand new Raptor died after 2 weeks.

If the battery still had a good charge left... the problem would have been why wouldn't the truck exit the Deep Sleep mode when my wife used the remote or the manual key, or any of the other techniques to "wake" it up?

Again - thank you all for the input. I am surprised more folks have not had this issue - but hopefully we can all learn from this.

One thing that I would do is schedule a start every 7 days if you are leaving your truck sitting. Fordpass makes it easy. I was out of town for 10 days and I remote started mine after 7.

2018 Raptor deep sleep mode

Just got the deep sleep message this morning. Ford Performance is closed for the holiday weekend so no help from them until Tuesday.

  • Put the vehicle into storage Thursday Dec 14th 10pm
    • Plugged a solar charger into the 12v outlet in console. No electricity available for a 110v tender
  • Remote started from the app Saturday Dec 23rd for 20 minutes
  • Plan was to remote start the vehicle every Saturday
  • Got the "Deep Sleep" message this morning

The app forced "Deep Sleep Mode" after fourteen days of not being driven, even though a remote start was done to the vehicle after nine days. I was hoping that the combination of the solar charger and remote start once a week would be sufficient to keep the battery's charge up.

I've left other vehicles in this same facility for up to three months with no starting issues. I won't be back to the Raptor until end of Feb or later. I'll be bringing a multimeter and a jump start unit with me.

I'll post again as I unravel the process of what to do for long term storage.

just need to remote drive it every Saturday. ;-)

any chance the real problem here is using the FordPass app? I loaded it to make my dealer happy then promptly did a system reset to remove it and have never looked back.

....

just read the torquenews article. sounds like FordPass is entirely the problem...ie there really is no problem, you just can't remotely talk to your truck after 14 days.

Sounds like the 2 fellows out fishing. First one says the wife hasn't spoke to him in 14 days. Second one asks were do you find one like that
